Got my work schedule

Well I got my work schedule today and I go back on July 18th. I just started my job in Jan so all I got for my maternity leave is the 6 weeks required by the doctor. I love my job and I do really miss it but the thought of leaving lo kills me. Thankfully she will be staying home with my dh or my mom on the off chance dh can't be home for the day. I know she is in great hands but she is not the worlds easiest baby, she has reflux and is very gassy which causes her to be very fussy at times. DH is great with her but he hasn't been home alone all day with her so I hope he knows what he is in for! I work two 8 hour shifts and two 12 hour shifts a week, the 12 hour days are the ones I am most worried about. I think the hardest part is me feeling like because I am her mom she needs me all the time when in reality she is great with dh and he is able to comfort her just fine. I just hope she doesn't start preferring him over me! Anyone else going back to work soon?

  • Does your dh not work? So you could maybe work part time

  • No, my DH was in the Marine Corps for 5 years so when he got out he started school and finishes his undergrad stuff at the end of this month. He will then be able to substitute teach on my days off and then will be starting an accelerated graduate program to become a high school history teacher at the end of the year. The reason why I currently have to work so much is because I just graduated nursing school in Dec. and started my job in Jan, since I am in an ICU it is a 6 month orientation and during that time I have to be full time. Once I am done with that I will be putting in a request to go to 90% which would just be three 12 hour shifts a week. So it is only going to be crazy for a little while.

  • I was having a hard time leaving our LO with daddy during the day because it would take him longer to figure out what was wrong with him and calm him down. I finally realized that the reason I was so much quicker at meeting LO's needs was because I spent so much time with him and that the only way DH is going to figure it out is going to spend time with him too. As to preferring him to you my thought has always been that Daddy is the fun one but I'm the one that LO wants to cuddle with when he's going to sleep or doesn't feel well. Hope this helps, I'm back to work at the end of the month and I just want to pause time. The last month has flown by way too fast.

I'm sorry you have to go back so soon.  But, I'm sure once you start back up and get into a schedule you will be fine.  I dread going back to work, but luckily I have a decent amount of time off.  You are lucky she will be staying with your husband or your mom.  I It might be easier than having to drop her off at daycare.
