Its sooo hard to say no to them without totally hurting their feelings! If it makes you feel any better, my mom mentioned something to me last night about how she thinks it'd be really neat if my step dad could be in the room when I'm delivering the baby cause he's never got to experience that before. UMMM HELLL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was all I could do to not scream "are you fvcking kidding me!?! what makes you think i'd want him in there with my freakin crotch on display!?!"
my mom wanted to be in the delivery room... but after a long "talking to" she understands that the time pushing our child into the world should only be shared by Dh and I. Its a bonding experience that we won't get very often... try saying that.. that worked for me!
If she doesn't listen to you when you tell her you don't want her in there, then make the nurses be the ones to break the news. My mom has already told me that she doesn't think DH will be able to deal with me in delivery and makes it sound like she HAS to be in there.
The funny thing is, I don't think that our mom's would have been able to have someone in the delivery room with them when they delivered us. I know my mom couldn't with me or my brother. Why is it such a big deal now??
We have been pretty clear and vocal since the begining who will be in the delivery room (me, DH and the medical people). My mom still cracks jokes and I am sure she is partly serious about me calling her in last minute...
I wonder if we will all do the same thing to our daughters?
My Mom and I went together to the 3D which was the only time she has been at an appt. I think she was feeling left out. But I have told my IL that if they were not there when Finn was created they will not be there when he is delivered- it is not a show. My Mom thank god gets that already.
Maybe I'll let her in during labor & delivery...and put the fear of God into her. LOL
Who knows? I may end up crying for my mom!
When my mom was delivering me (pretty sure it was me) she wanted her mom...not my dad! LOL Dad's feelings were hurt at first. Now he jokes about it.
DH and I decided it's just gonna be him, me, our doula, and the medical staff...HOWEVER if I really want my mom to come in she will just be in the waiting room and I can have someone go get her (I don't forsee this happening but I guess never say never)
And about the Step Dad thing ::Throws up in mouth::!
I guess I am lucky that my mom did not ask to be in the room. ?She pretty much said she would not have wanted anyone else there and thought that I would want the same. ?She will be in the waiting room in case I freak out and need her though. ?Can you tell her that she can be "on call" and then just have someone get her when its over?

I stormed out of her house and haven't talked to my mom in almost 3 weeks because of her being all pushy about DEMANDING to be in there for the delivery - she's also said "What happens if DH can't do it, or passes out? Then who will be your coach? There's no way you can do it alone!!" Umm, thanks for the vote of confidence, Mom. That just pissed DH off, too, and now he's even more committed to being tough during the delivery.
And seriously, the kind of relationship I have with my mom -- she's not the most calming person in the world -- even if DH did pass out, I wouldn't want my mom in there with me!!!
She totally doesn't buy into the whole "If you weren't there when the baby was made, you're not being in there when he/she is born." UGH!!!
I'm planning to make sure the nurses play guards, too.
Re: So, looks like I still have a battle on my hands with my mom
Your stepdad!? OMG! LOL.

Ya, sick. I think I threw up a little at the thought!
