Last night while out for dinner with some old co-workers in my hometown (1/2 an hour from new home), I was shocked to find when I went to the washroom that I had a large amount of watery red blood that had soaked through my shorts. While of course, that's not embarrasing enough on it's own when you've just walked through a restaurant full of people, I of course immediately think that I'm miscarrying again. It was so weird though, so very different from last time. I didn't have major cramping at all like I did the time it happened in January. After wrapping a sweater around my waist, I quickly scarfed down my food and decided that since it was Friday night and I couldn't call my doctor's office that I would just take a "quick" stop into the local ER to see if they could just check things out. I'm also unfortunately between OBGYN's right now because I had just asked my family doctor to refer me to someone else after I had some problems with my previous one. I have an appointment booked with the new one, but not until July 24th so I haven't even met him yet..
My very kind sister joined me at the hospital, where they did a urine sample and took some initial blood work. I'm thinking, okay great, they'll check the different pregnancy chemical levels and just let me know if they are low or normal and we can be on our way. WELL, after sitting there for 3 hours, they come in and finally reveal that that hospital is not actually equipped to do blood tests for Beta levels and they have to send it into the bigger hospital in the city!!! They then said they had to take MORE blood so that they could send it to the big hospital, and when I asked them what the heck they did with the first blood they drew they pretty much brushed me off! I asked them, well, did you at least check my urine test to see what the result was (During my last miscarriage a pregnancy test came back with a much fainter line), and the nurse told me.."no, I didn't even look at it because you had already told me that you had a positive test". GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! I left there past midnight with no answers and no resolve. Even though I''m pretty certain the red bleeding indicates miscarriage, there's been no tissue pieces or clotting of any sort so I'm sooo confused!!! I'm left now for the weekend having no clue what is going on! I know you guys can't give me any answers, but I just wanted to vent and share my story and I figured this was the best place to do it!!!
I'm fully prepared for the worst and at the same time am going to try to think positive thoughts, but has anyone ever had a circumstance where they had similar bleeding and things worked out okay? I still don't have severe cramping and the bleeding seemed to not continue much throughout the night and was barely there this morning.
Thanks for giving me a place to vent. I know that Canada is supposed to be the place to be because of our "Free" medical care, but good golly what a horrible experience with it last night!
(Sorry this was so long)
Re: Worst experience with Cdn Medical System (long & detailed)
I'm so sorry for your awful night.
I have had 2 c/ps and they were just like regular periods. However, I know a LOT of people who have bled/spotted throughout 1st tri. If it stopped, I'd say that's VERY reassuring!
Have you taken another test yet today? I know they say the darkness of the line doesn't matter, but I knew my 2nd c/p was coming because the line was super faint.
I really hope everything is okay with your baby! Sending lots of thoughts your way.
