Okay, first one... the tanks with the built in bra - have you, can you go braless in it?
I guess when I started running I was nursing. I was a DD and needed 2 sports bras to contain them. Now I am an A/B, so I probably don't need to, but I always wear a sports bra then my tank even if it has the built in one. And yes, my running tanks are tight enough to hold 'em (I think).
Another question... with running shoes, do you wear the same size you do in normal shoes? Do you go up a size?
I ask because after my half, I had 3.5 toenails black and blue. Two have fallen off in the last month and the other two just look great. Is there anyway to avoid this? My only real running pals have never had this issue.
Thanks!
Re: Another odd running attire question... or two!
I can't answer the sports bra question. I'm a DD normally and now that I'm bfing, it's ridiculous. I could never, ever go without a sports bra or 2.
Stay in normal shoe sizes, but maybe go to a running store to make sure you get ones that fit correctly. Good socks are also a must.
I BF'd two kids and am now down to a small C (maybe large
. I don't think I'd ever go running with just the built in bra. Those may work for yoga or other low impact sports, but I wouldn't want to use them for something more high impact.
Regarding your shoes, I highly recommend getting professionally fitted. Most places recommend going up at least a 1/2 size from your normal shoes. I wear a 8-8.5 in every day shoes, but wear a 9 in running shoes. I still sometimes get black toenails (or lose toenails) but nowhere near as bad as when I was wearing an 8.5 running shoe.
I;m a DD and would never go without a sports bra. I wear 2 when I go running.
And I always go at least half a size bigger for running shoes.
I love the Champion brand bra! I usually just cut out the built in bra, i never liked them, to thin. Destination Maternity has nursing sports bras. I haven't tried any on yet, but I might get 1 or 2, I figure I won't have to worry about leaking if I'm out on a run because you can just slide in a nursing pad.
As for the shoes, I'm still the same size, but everyone is different. I know it's gross but sometimes with the toenail thing, it could be happening because your toenails might be too long, and you may not even notice.
I wear a sports bra under the built in bra (to me this is like double bra-ing it, but more comfortable).
I wear 1/2 size bigger running shoes. Go to a good running store for shoes. I did this and now order the exact same pair every 6+ months (asics 2160?).
I would always wear a sports bra when running, regardless of size.
Go to a running store and get fitted for shoes. That will help you so much and if you're going to be serious about running, you should invest in the right shows for your feet to avoid injury.
Like a PP, I also cut out the built in bra. They are usually too big for me. So, I wear a sports bra.
As for the shoes, I wear a 1/2 size larger in my running shoes, but I would go an get fitted as a PP said. Not only will you get the proper size, but also the proper shoe for your gait. I also think that most running stores will let you try the shoe. This was helpful for me because I could tell the sales person what I did and did not like about the feel of the shoe and then he brought out others based on what I said.
