Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Q about swaddle sleep sacks...

My dd is 3.5 months and she never liked having her hands swaddled, only her feet. When she started getting her startle reflex we bought a swaddle sleepsack (halo) and she seemed fine with it and has been sleeping great. Because the sleepsacks are loose on the legs, she does sometimes kick and because I just transitioned her to her own crib/room I'm nervous she's going to kick herself over and end up on her face .... Is this possible ??

  • By kick herself over, do you mean roll over?  Because at that age, babies start doing that.

  • My girls started rolling over while in their swaddles at 4 months and that's when we knew we had to move them out of the swaddles.  We tried a ton of other things (just PJ's, swaddling with one arm out and both arms out, sleep sacks, all of those in their cribs, RNPs and swings) and they wouldn't sleep.  I sucked it up and bought them the Magic Sleep Suits and they sleep great in those.  DD2 just figured out how to roll over in the sleep suit, but she hasn't done it in her crib and at least her hands are free in that.

  • we started using the aiden and anaise sleep sacks and that works well for us. His arms are free but his legs and feet are covered. It's not really swaddeling at all, but having his legs covered helps him sleep better.

  • You could always wedge her in with some rolled up towels. I have to do this with DD because she will turn herself sideways and get really mad.
