  • My confession is that when people throw out "uneducated" as a way to describe people who do not share their opinions, I always wonder what their education level is.

  • I find no joy in cooking.  If it's more complicated than boiling water, I want to smash my head on the counter.  I'm absolutely horrible at it.  I don't have the attention span or patience.  Recipes entitled "Simple Dinners Made From Things You Have Lying Around" are always BS.  They always call for shiit like 1/4 tsp. of crushed mustard seed or a sprig of lemon grass... dafaq?  Listen, Emeril.  I shop at Aldi.  If they don't have it, I don't have it.  K?

Now baking, on the other hand, is fun.  I'll make you anything you want.  Just don't ask me what the name of it is.  It's yummy.  Eat it.

  • I'm a social worker who worked in a psych setting... My FFFC is that I totally judged my clients who came in for services subsidized by Medicaid holding their iPhones and complaining that the lunch we provided wasn't good enough for them, so they would go to the restaurant next door every day to eat... Only to come back and ask me to arrange Medicaid transportation for them to go to the supermarket or to their nail/hair appointment (which ended up being them meeting with their dealer an buying drugs with the social security money instead).

Yup, that happens in real life, so anyone can come tell me I'm being judgy...

Apparently all of us that are upset with the welfare system are uneducated and bitter.  I just had to point out that when people say that an opinion makes you uneducated it makes me wonder what their education level is.

Opinions AND confessions are like @ssholes, everyone has one and it's likely someone's opinion will differ from yours but that doesn't mean they are always uneducated.

    Totally agree!

My confession is that I'm in a very, very bad mood today and am actually hoping someone will do something to piss me off, just so I can lash out at them to make me feel better.  Unusual for me, but there it is.  (Maybe I'm just bitter, lol)

  • Right now I am having to choose between a p/t teaching job for next year (sure thing, already been offered the position) and a full time instructional coach position that's an advancement (not a sure thing, haven't been offered anything but an interview).  I know that the right decision for us is probably for me to take the p/t teaching job so that I can spend more time with the baby.  But part of me hates the idea because we'll have to be really careful with our discretionary spending and it's more of a placeholder for my career than an advancement and I'm worried that if I'm not moving forward, I won't get another opportunity at advancing.  And the part of me that doesn't hate the idea of having less money or advancing is very judgey at my selfishness and sneaky desire to choose money/career over spending time with the baby.

Yup, rehashing something for a second day doesn't make anyone seem, well, obsessed.

I mean really -- you might as well all quit your jobs and live the high life on the free cheese you are so upset about.  Sounds like it is quite the life!

The occasional UO is normal -- the continued rehashing is a bit much.  All the time, many of the same people.  We all get it -- you don't like that a demonstrated small subset of people get something the don't deserve (in your eyes).

My UO is harping on it all the time, with zero constructive input about solutions, is sort of bitter.  Sorry.

     1. We are on to FFFC, not UO, so your last point should be posted on yesterday's thread.

    2. WHAT IS IT WITH YOU AND CHEESE? I don't think anyone mentioned cheese and you continue to bring it up.

    3. We aren't necessarily as upset about it as you make us out to be. We are annoyed. Get it right.

    Oh, yeah:

  • DH and I are having our new house built and will be ready in a few months. We are so excited cause it's everything we want for our kids to grow up in and it's just perfect. My confession is that I am so sad about leaving my house we are in now. I bought this house by myself when I was 25 (when nobody said I could do it) and I moved in to it with my mattress and some boxes and slowly decorated it and made it a beautiful home. I am feeling so sentimental but at the same time excited for the new place.

My other confession is that whenever I go into Michaels Crafts and I am ready to check out I stand in front of the candy for a solid minute deciding what to get. I have never left Michaels without some stupid candy and it's not even a good deal.

  • My FFFC is that I judge the so called middle-class people who complain that they don't qualify for Medicaid due to high income yet have room in their budget for cable/internet, nice cars, eating out, etc..., especially when they have insurance available through their jobs at a reduced cost. So basically what you are telling me is health insurance is okay if it is free but not if you have to actually contribute to it?

FWIW, I have encountered these complaints from multiple people in my group of family and friends.

If your tired of reading the same sh** over and over then get off the October board and quit reading. No one is forcing you to read the UO or any other thread. The women you are referring to are good women and have every right to say what ever they want about what ever topic they want. Again if you think "rehashing is a bit much" move on.

Just to set the record straight...

    1. Yesterday was the first time I've EVER posted on my frustration with the system.

    2. For you to tell us we are uneducated for feeling that way is completely unfounded.

    3. Get over yourself Amy, clearly you have no idea what is actually going on in the world. But then again, how could you when you are so high up in your ivory tower.

    4. I posted my confession because I frankly do wonder what your education level is after you threw out there that we were so uneducated to have our opinions about the system that I know I, for one, actually have quite a bit of experience with.

Pretty sure you got solutions yesterday that you deemed "uneducated"... How much experience do you have working for state run agencies who struggle day to day to provide services for those who don't take advantage of the system but can't provide because of those who do? I'm sorry, but sounds to me that the only "uneducated" person here is you. No one is complaining about "free cheese". The problem here is that most of us will bust our a$$ to provide for our families only for our tax dollars to get wasted away just because of a massive flaw in the system.

OR I can give you 100 more examples of everyday issues. Your call.

A few forum posts does not an obsession make.  Have you ever spent time with a truly obsessed person?  Yeah, very different than what you are seeing here.

Also, I think the point today was less about the actual topic we were discussing yesterday and more about the fact that someone whose education level has been undetermined was calling some other people uneducated, when those people are most certainly educated.  It's a little silly to assume you know all about someone's education level based on what they post on an internet board.

And finally, I'm thinking most people who do have a problem with broken government programs have no problem with cheese.  I think the bigger problem is subsidies that people can combine to live a really nice life while sitting on their butts, having more children, and paying no taxes.  I've been in line behind some of these people and have seen the kinds of things they buy with their food stamps.  It does make me angry that they can buy the steak that I put back because it was too expensive.  It does upset me that they are talking on their iPhones while paying their grocery bill with money I paid to the government.  I'm not sure that makes me obsessed or bitter so much as it just means I'm paying attention and don't like being taken advantage of.  Cheese is not an issue.  If it were just that, I would say "free cheese for all!"  Mostly because I love cheese.  The issue is much, much bigger than that.

If that makes me bitter or "uneducated" in your eyes, so be it.  I don't care what internet strangers think of me anyway.  And I'm in a bad mood.

Here's another FFFC: Ever since that discussion, I've been trying to think of clever porn movie names for pregnancy porn.  Fetal Attraction?

Yup, rehashing something for a second day doesn't make anyone seem, well, obsessed.

I mean really -- you might as well all quit your jobs and live the high life on the free cheese you are so upset about.  Sounds like it is quite the life!

The occasional UO is normal -- the continued rehashing is a bit much.  All the time, many of the same people.  We all get it -- you don't like that a demonstrated small subset of people get something the don't deserve (in your eyes).

My UO is harping on it all the time, with zero constructive input about solutions, is sort of bitter.  Sorry.

Have you ever had that cheese?! It's so good! My church gets it for their Sunday night feeding of the homeless. Some of the best mac and cheese I ever had.

  • Okay I have another one. I live in a very nice part of town and lately I have been seeing more people pushing shopping carts up into my neighborhood and other surrounding neighborhoods and if you are going to steal the shopping cart at least return it next time you walk down to the store, don't just keep bringing more up here. It drives me nuts!!!

My husband and I are not gift people. We don't buy birthday gifts, anniversary gifts, or even Christmas gifts for each other (unless he feels like being sneaky like last year). We probably won't buy more than like 2 gifts for LO for Christmas and probably only 1 gift at birthday. I really don't think a baby/child needs more than that.

I completely agree! My LO's grandparents will go nuts for Christmas/bdays. I don't feel the need to buy a ton of stuff. Maybe their seasonal clothes and one gift they really want.
