Ready to feed formula users

How do you keep it cold when on the go? We normally use powder but am thinking liquid may be easier when on vacation so we only have to being nursery water for SS to drink & not mix w/ formula. But I'm wondering how to keep cold in diaper bag? Do you carry a mini cooler?

Re: Ready to feed formula users

  • I use powder but have had to keep a bottle cold on the go before.  They make little bags that are designed to hold 2 bottles and they work great for stuffing in the diaper bag.  Just put one of those little freezer things in the bag with the bottles.

FWIW, I still think it's much much easier to travel with powder.  I buy nursery water (or water jugs) and keep those in the hotel and then bring enough water bottles when we go out.

  • I know but it's annoying lugging those gallons of water especially in a packed car. Thought this my be easier

  • For a car ride, I would think ready to use would probably be easier and I probably would just do a cooler (depending on how many bottles you will need to pack).  Does your LO take cold bottles fine?

Once I get to wherever I'm going, that's usually just when I bring power and a bottle of water (if I know he won't go through more than 1 or 2 bottles).

  • We don't use ready to feed, however they do make individual servings (8oz) of ready to feed formula that doesn't need to be kept cool until after you open them.  We use those and the 4oz powder travel packages when we are on the go.

  • If I am going to be out all day I will use the 8oz cans of ready to feed. I just have those and empty bottles on hand. I keep them room tempature.

If I am going to someone's house I will make the bottles and keep them in a cooler/bottle bag.

  • I use the 2oz and 8oz RTF bottles.  I don't refrigerate them.  Medela makes nipples that fit on the bottles so you don't need to pour it into a seperate bottle.

  • Am I the only one who doesn't use nursery water for mixing with formula?  I use either regular bottled water (when we are on the go), or filtered water (Brita).  If I'm headed out of the house, I will pre-fill the bottles with 8 oz of water and just have the water in the bottles and add the formula when I need the bottle.  The bottles are at room temperature.

We have never used nursery water. We but the cases of regular water (16oz bottles)  when grocery shopping and just use those. We were told that any brand but Dasani (due to the added sodium) is fine.

I used these while traveling- It was easier to deal with these little bottles than to try to BF on a cramped plane.  Good thing it was a short flight.  :)
