Not sure really where to post this, as I am a newbie here, but I was wondering if anyone might be able to help my best friend and I out with some stuff.
Heres my/our story: I am mom of a 6 month old DD and she is expecting her DD sometime in August. She will be a single mom and does not have much for her baby or much income. I have been trying to help her as much as I can by getting things together for her, but I myself am unemployed and my DH and I do not have much income and are struggling to make ends meet for us and our DD, so both of us at the same time have a need of baby items.
If anyone has diapers of any size, wipes, baby girl clothes (from preemie-18 months), bottles, and Similac Sensitive actuals or Similac Sensitive checks/coupons, or any other baby and baby girl items, and would love to help us, I can send you an email with my address that you can mail items to and it would be such a huge blessing to both of us and our baby girls!
If this wasn't the right area for me to post this in, I apologize, but I wasn't sure where would be better for me to put this. Thanks so much in advance!:)
Re: Is anyone able to help me with any of the following?...
Sometimes churches or charitable organizations set aside funds and resources for these kind of situations. Have you tried contacting some in your area?
I need to talk to my husband first, but I do have some boxes of size 1 diapers that never got used because we use cloth diapers. I'll get back to you once I talk to him.
DD1: allergic to eggs & dairy
c/p 4/1/11
DD2: milk and soy protein intolerant, allergic to eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, bananas

no judging here!
I so wish I'd have seen this a week ago. we had a ton of diapers we just gave away.
I'm not much help, sorry, but I do want to wish you and your friend the best of luck. You'll help each other through the tough times, and that really does make a difference. Make her sign up for the formula checks too and she can give them to you!!
Not to push you into anything you're not comfortable with, but if you and/or your friend have access to a washer, you could save a lot of money by using cloth diapers. Buying prefolds is hella cheap, and some people really like them (we found them to be a bit tricky to use). We got fuzzibunz and bumgenius one-size diapers (so they grow with baby), and will have spent just under $500 on diapers (with the exception of the backup disposables we keep on hand). That's the total cost until she's using the potty. We bought new, and it's possible to get a good stash for even less if you buy used. It's true, our electric bill went up, but still not as much as it would have cost to use disposables.
Just throwing it out there.
I wish I had extras to donate, but we're already handing down almost everything we have to friends.
Good luck!
It really doesn't add much to the electric, especially if you use a drying rack or line dry. It's totally worth the savings. You can even find some random brands for cheap on all the mama bargain websites (babysteals, mamabargains, greenbabybargains, babyhalfoff, totsy, zuilily, etc.). Prefolds and waterproof covers are the ultimate way to save, though. $2/prefold-it's hard to beat that!
Also, if you don't get checks, get generic formula. Half the price, same ingredients! Sunday papers almost always have a coupon for Huggies or Pampers. Get coupons off neighbors/coworkers and go to a place where you can double them. I know what it's like to have a tight budget, I feel for ya! I also FF, and not by choice!
Sorry, the bump doesn't make it easy to know you have a message or even how to check it. >.<;
Unfortunately, my husband had already promised those diapers to his stepsister who's due in a couple months. I'm sorry I couldn't help. Have you tried asking family and friends if they'd be willing to help you out? You could also try posting on the North Carolina board to see if anyone there could give you a donation.
What do you mean by this? Like, anyone else here going to give me stuff? And someone offered to send you something and you responded with the fact they live in the same state so ts not too much to send something.
You sound ungrateful to those that actually are trying to help you.
I don't know if she is a scammer. But that comment has ungrateful written all over it!
This. Believe me I get that babies are hard to really budget for, but why did you say that you did and that your pregnancy was planned? All the stuff that you have shared today contradicts that. So maybe you shouldn?t have told us that information, seeing how that could pretty much never be true for anyone IMO. Babies are expensive. This whole post screams SCAM when I read it. I really hope the people that have offered things to you realize it now after all your ?I have a negative answer for everything as to why it will not work? comments. If they still do then they are suckers. Another thing that screams scam artist about you is the fact that you just joined TB 3 days ago and you are already asking for a hand out. If your bills are too high, maybe you should get a job.
Agree with the above. I am all for helping our mommas in need but the second I started reading the post, I thought scam. A lot of the ladies gave you excellent advice on how to save money but you instantly shot those down and continued to pander. The "anyone else" comment sealed the deal for me. If you aren't a scammer than at the very least you are ungrateful. Neither of those things is going to get you anything from me.

Go cry a river elsewhere. Try to be grateful and show a little class.

I, on the other hand, would love some C/S cooties to taint her soul. Maybe she could sell them for some diapers and personality classes.

I don't mind the initial asking, but this is freaking ridiculous and honestly it makes me angry. These ladies have gone over and above to help many people and you just seem like you expect it- not cool.
I'll admit I jumped in to offer to help because I read your initial post as you asking for help for your friend. I'm put off by the fact that you've since posted more about your own troubles than trying to help a friend also in dire straights.
Also, while I can understand you wanting to relate to us and to other boards, you're going about it the wrong way. I mean to boast about your vaginal birth on the CS board? That's just tasteless! And the natural birth board is about having a NATURAL birth, meaning no meds. You might have gotten a better response telling your story on the Birth Stories board; that's what it's for.
I won't sit here and call you names, but you need a reality check. You need to accept the help you're offered, even when it's useful advice to help yourself instead of handouts. You need to realize that rubbing your vaginal birth in the faces of those who didn't (and often couldn't) have one isn't a tactful conversation starter. You need to learn how to offer encouragement only when you can actually say you've been there. As much as I hate telling people to go away, you'd do best to learn how to be part of a community better, namely a different community.
Quit spending time on the internet and get a job.
