threw my supper on the floor - mini breakdown

I left DS for the first time ever this weekend to attend a wedding out of town. He stayed with my mom and she gave him bottles of expressed BM. He's MSPI and im sure there were some traces of dairy/soy in my frozen milk because hes been having cramps and a rash since I got home. When I got home he screamed and cried for about an hour and refused to nurse for 5 hours. My mom kept pushing to just give him a bottle. Urgh so frustrating. My biggest fear was a nursing strike so the last thing I wanted to do was "just give him a bottle." On top of that Im pretty sure hes having a 3 month growth spurt because hes been feeding every 1-2 hours for 3 days. When I told my mom she said "well maybe your milk isnt rich enough and its not filling him". thanks mom! add that to zero sleep and I just threw my supper on the floor (plate and all), grabbed my baby and sat on the couch and cried....

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with people who don't think before they speak... Go get yourself some food and sit with your baby... You know what you are doing. ((( hugs)))

  • I'm so sorry. Being dairy-free is hard enough (I am) without ppl telling you your milk is  "bad" for other reasons. Feel better! Glad your LO finally nursed.
  • *hugs* I think most of us have been there. When I was EPing, I got all sorts of rude comments from my mother and MIL about why I wasn't BFing. Now DD is MPI (no issues with soy yet, so far as I can tell) and they're pressuring me to FF.

I am so sorry your mom made such an insensitive comment. I have heard that line before as well, and that maybe DD "isn't getting enough". These people don't "believe in" growth spurts, therefor, it must be something wrong with me, or I'm doing something wrong. I have been *this close* to telling people to F off.

I hope your night gets better.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.  I have had to deal with comments like that and it really makes you feel like sh!t.  My sister FF her son and my family is always pressuring me to switch to formula bc LO has bad reflux and gas and her son doesn't.    I have heard things like 'well what's wrong with your breastmilk?'. It really makes you second guess your choices and feel awful.  You are doing so many great things for your baby- don't let anyone get you down.  I hope your LO feels better.

  • I'm really sorry. People who make such comments obviously aren't educated about how wonderful nursing is for both of you. If baby is still not wanting to nurse try some skin to skin or even a bath together.

  • It makes me furious when people say derogatory things about a mother's breastmilk. Furious! I'm sorry you had a rough day. I hope today is better!
