How long to wait before I call after an interview

I interviewed on a Friday and was I told I'd hear from them by the following Friday. Today is the Monday after that Friday and still no word. I also followed up with a thank you email on the Wednesday after the interview with no response. FWIW, the interview seemed to go really well and the interviewer was almost talking like I had the job.

How long should I wait to call to follow up?

  • Can you send a 'checking in' email?

I have a similar thing going on right now. Waiting to hear for a really great part time thing. I had two phone interviews (out of the area deal) and I had a great voicemail right after the second interview. Kinda seemed like I have the job...they just need to see if third interview is necessary. It was a week ago Thursday- sent a checking in email, havent heard anything. Lame.

  • i think you can follow-up already. Just make sure it is nicely worded and would just send the message that you are interested about the job so you wanna find out about the result of the interview :)

    All the best! :)

  • I would wait this week out, what with it being a holiday week, maybe everyone is on vacation, covering for people who are on vacation?

I would check in Monday the 9th.

  • I agree with brewcitybride, wait at least a week, especially when there is a holiday involved. Go ahead and send in your thank you letter but wait to call for a follow up. Even if they mentioned that you were the last person they had left to interview, it takes time to review all of the interviews and make decisions with HR.

Enjoy your week, don't stress, good luck!

  • I would call today, and just follow up and re-express your interest. Even if things are moving slow because of the holiday, they can just let you know that. As long as you aren't constantly calling and emailing, 1 f/u call is fine and shows you are still interested.
  • I would probably do a follow up email but I might give them until this Friday.  It IS a funny week and all with the 4th being right in the middle.

My dad is an HR Consultant and he gives me the same line every time I'm freaking about hearing back and that is that "they have a different sense of urgency than you do".  GL!

  • A week is plenty of time. You want to keep your name fresh in their heads. Whether you are comfortable calling or emailing, either is fine. Just be sure to tell them that you are wondering if they have made any decisions because you are very excited at the opportunity and look forward to talking with them again soon.
