Babies: 6 - 9 Months

7.5 months and won't eat food

DD is 7.5 months and she will NOT eat any baby food. She clamps her mouth shut. She gets offered food at least twice a day sometimes three. We are lucky if we can get 2-3 spoonfuls in her mouth. I have tried all different kinds and she is not happy with it. I think because of this she is also not sleeping as well through the night. She goes back to sleep and gets no bottles during the night but I wonder if that isn't helping the situation.

Anyone else have a child that will not eat?? Suggestions???

  • My sister in law had the same problem. She used to give her son his baby food in his bottle. I honestly don't know how safe or healthy that is, but it's worth asking your doctor about it.

  • My LO is the same age and experiencing the same thing!  We've tried different flavors, jarred food, and those pouches -- no luck!  He just won't open his mouth for the spoon.  That said, he loves to eat grown-up food.  I give him small shreds of chicken, steak, goat cheese, etc. and he gobbles that right up.  I wonder if my LO just doesn't like the spoon concept, as he eats the grown-up food straight from my hand.  I've ordered a variety of spoons to see if he likes any of them.
  • No advice, but my DD hates food too. I've tried it all, jars, pouches, homemade, cereal, yogurt, etc. the only thing she seems to like a bit better is large pieces of food she can hold and gnaw on. She doesn't eat much and most ends up on the floor, but it gives me hope that she might just not be into pur?es and will like regular table food more. Maybe they are just late eaters? From a nutritional standpoint, they don't really need anything except BM or formula at this age.

  • Is your child teething? DS started doing this and I realized he had started cracking teeth.

  • She does have 1 tooth on bottom and another one on bottom coming in.

Tried different things with her too. Plain cereal. Mixing pur?ed in. Different flavors. Nothing.

I recently bought puffs. She picks them up but not interested in eating them. I will try feeding her some table food that is very small.

Of course she won't be in to pur?ed. I got like 100 jars for free with coupons just after she was born.

  • I was wondering if we should try thinner too.

  • DS doesn't really eat that many solids. He has actually been on a solids strike for three weeks (but he has 6 teeth coming in and a cold, so I think that is why). Anyway, it really is no big deal. Food under one is just for fun. I know lot of babies who didn't really get into solids until 15 months or so, it is a lot more normal than it seems.

We never did purees with DS. He has always self-fed.
