Pregnant after a Loss

A link shared on my BMB

Someone on my BMB shared a link to a blog post on how to alter normal clothes to make them maternity. I really like this idea and think I may go check out the second hand stores this weekend for some tops to try altering without worrying about ruining a new shirt on my first try. If it works this could be a way to save some serious money on maternity clothes!

  • Embarrassing fact:  I can not sew at all.  DH actually had to sew a button on one of my blazers when it fell off because I could not figure it out.  Worst wife ever.

If I was capable of sewing, I would totally try that though.

  • Don't feel bad, I'm very new to sewing and have only made a few things. I actually told my mom she was a bad mother a few months ago because she didn't teach me how to sew lol. I made her bring her sewing machine out when she came to visit and we did an easy project together. She left her machine here and I've made a few other things since she left including a very cute apron.
  • My mom is an awesome sewer, and I'm sure she could do this, but I feel not at all up to the task. :-( Still, it's a great idea for people who can sew well!

I told my mom sometime last year that I had no idea how to sew and had never been shown how to properly iron...she said she failed me as a mother.  Sometimes I think DH should SAH and I should go back to work because I am way more the corporate type and he is actually more useful around the house, but I would resent him so much if he stayed home while I worked.

lol that's too funny. I think part of my trying to learn how to do new things like sew is because I stay home now. I need ways to fill my time as well as ways to feel useful. I already know how to cook (my mom did teach me that) but that isn't really something to do all day long, especiallly since dh and I could both go without eating as much. I've had fun with the few things I've made but look forward to trying new things. I figure if this lo is a girl I can get in a lot of practice making her little dresses while she's too little to have a say in what she gets to wear. If it's a boy I guess I'll stick to making things for myself.

I actually am an awesome cook but that's the extent of my homemaker abilities.  I've thought about learning to do more crafty things to kill time, eventually, I probably will.

  • I did this with some work pants (I happen to be a damn good seamstress:) I could not find any maternity pants that looked professional from anywhere other than Pea in a Pod or Ann Taylor and I was not spending $200 on maternity pants. I got some nice ones at Stein Mart and did my own. I think they are tons more comfortable, you also don't have the huge lycra thing covering your whole belly and making you hot!

Cute about the shirts! I had no idea!
