Which balance bike?

We are definitely getting DS a balance bike for his birthday.  I was going to get him the Strider...mainly because it's the first one that popped up on Amazon.  However, my friend has the mini-glider.  Did anyone do a lot of research or want to rave about their choice?

 Thanks in advance!

  • We have the Y bike because it was cheap at Costco and dd loves it! She does really good on it already, though we haven't ventured outside with it just yet!

  • We have the Strider and DS loves it.  I do wish it had a kick stand though he probably wouldn't use it.

OK, so I take LO to an indoor play place sometimes and they have a track and lots of bikes and trikes, including the two you mentioned and Y Bike. I think Y Bike is ugly but it is by far the most popular one. FWIW LO has a Skuut and it's fine but I would get something else if I had it to do over.

Wow, it is ugly.  Do you think it's just easier to balance because of the bigger wheels so more kids use it?

I'm jealous of this indoor play place.  I wish we had something like that around here.  Maybe we do and I don't know about it!?!?  You would think that the Chicago suburbs would have something like that ...

  • I just looked at videos of the ybike and it looks like it would be outgrown quickly...what do you think? I dont think my DS would understand to keep his feet up

  • we actually did do a lot of research (well the H did) and went with the Strider b/c it's got a foot rest for when they glide. it's a cute bike and she was able to get on it straight away but she's not gliding yet. also, the H was saying that when it comes time for pedals, we could buy them and attach them to the Strider... ?

  • The Strider bike is better, it will grow with them and your DS will love it. We bought Ds one when he was only 18 months and now at 22month he is coasting on it. I will loade a video to youtube so u guys can see.

I've never seen pedals for any of these bikes.  But if anyone invents one, I think it might sell even better!!!

  • We got DD a Strider for her 2nd birthday.  She absolutely loves it.  She's not quite ready to glide on it, but she asks to ride every day.
We got it to teach her some balance, so we won't need pedals on her first bike, plus we'd like to get her on a dirtbike in a couple years.  And, they're pretty cool looking.  Wish I'd had one when I was a kid!
And we got her one that came with a bunch of different Monster truck stickers, so she can decorate it with whatever Monster truck is her favorite.

  • Love the Strider.  DS started riding his at 18/19 months, and within a year he was riding a pedal bike with no training wheels.
