just curious

I've been having a lot of trouble with being dizzy/shakey/passing out the last few weeks. I've been doing great on my water/food intake and had to take the glucose test early (which I passed).  We will be discussing this issue at my appointment on Monday, but I got to thinking today....

I'm a teacher and we start school in August.  My school has no a/c, the temps are usually in the 80's and 90's (making our building HOTT) and my class will be filled with 23 Kindergartners.  Is the heat going to make this issue worse if we can't figure out the reason?  Is this something I'll be put on bed rest for (I don't want that!)???

My brain is just going going going.....thanks for reading my ramblings Smile

  • I can't believe you don't have AC at your school, that really sucks. I would get some giant fans and point them right at you. Maybe one for the kids too ;) The heat will be a b*tch but I doubt you'd need bed rest.

  • If I was in your place I would see if you can bring a fan and have lots of cold water with you.

  • I am also a teacher and have discussed this with my custodian.  I had an a/c this year because it was on one of my students IEP's.  I have requested for them to keep it in my classroom and they told me to get a doctors note and that they would try.  It drives me crazy that we have to teach in such hot classrooms.  I have seen them get up in the 90's.

  • I have been having this problem for as long as I can remember as has my mother. It has worsened since I have been pregnant but protein fixes the problem, as soon as I start feeling the slightest shakes and I mean the slightest ( because it is a horrible feeling) I eat something high in protein and that ALWAYS takes care of it.

  • I have this problem and actually passed out about a week ago! (Luckily, my husband was there to catch me as I fell.. )

We had a scheduled appointment the next morning with our OB and he said that I was more than likely overheated (I wasn't even sweating, which is quite a feat in this 100+ weather we've been having) and standing for too long. I thought he was insane because I was only standing for like 10 minutes at the time and routinely go on 2+ mile walks. But he said that standing still can make pregnant women pass out because the blood vessels in the lower half of your body are pumping more blood and therefore there is less blood making its way back to your head.

I will say that I noticed myself feeling wobbley again while shopping yesterday and immediately felt better after sitting down and drinking some water. That's just my body and how I'm handling it. Hope that helps!

  • It may be an issue with your BP...I have really low BP, and this has happened to me a few times while pregnant (I passed out while AT the doctor's a few weeks ago.) You should mention it to your doctor again, really stress that it's concerning you. Remember, passing out is NEVER normal and shouldn't be brushed off by your doc!
