Do you wash LOs toys when they hit the floor?

I'm a bit neurotic with LOs toys, I keep them and him off the floor( if he's sitting it's on a blanket on the floor) but my friend watches him and she puts him right in the floor with his toys and such...it kind of bothers me but then I think maybe I'm just over worried, she has a perfectly healthy 11 month old after all

  • If were at home no I don't wash them. If were out I wipe them off. Soon your lo will be crawling.. his hands will still go in his mouth. I read your posts and a lot if times think you need to relax and rake a deep breath. ( easier for me to say this is my 3rd lo).

  • DS's toys are all over our floor. Some are even covered in dog hair. I'd do nothing but clean them all day long, if I felt so inclined. DS is sitting and crawling and spends most of his day playing on the floor, so I don't see why his toys shouldn't be down there with him.

  • Ha. No. Toys are always on the floor, so ... no. The only time I've ever washed a toy in my 2.5 years of parenthood is if it falls in the mud outside.
  • Um no. I do not have the time for that!

  • I don't wash toys.  I don't even wash the binkies 'till the end of the day or maybe the next and then it's just the ones I see or the one in the kitchen.  I'm a firm believer in dirt being generally not bad for kids.

  • DS is lucky if we wipe the dog hair off.  I do try to keep him on a big blanket if he's on the carpet (because of aforementioned dog hair) but that's the extent of it.  Unless, of course, MIL is in town.  Then I'm super hygenic!! ;)  I was definitely more careful when he was a newborn.  Now...not so much.

I don't even wash the binkies! I don't wash his toys either. I have pacifier wipes and if I notice they need to be wiped off I will use one of those, but definitely not daily.

  • i don't make a big deal of it. I try to avoid letting her put stuff in her mouth if it is covered in dog hair which means I basically sleep with my Dyson slim in my hand but short of visible dirt or grossness, I don't stress. It isn't gonna hurt him. Plus once he gets moving, you're gonna be in way over your head if you worry about dirt.
  • I am a little neurotic also (I am a nurse and a certified germaphobe), I wash most of my DS's toys in the sink a couple times a week and wipe them down daily.  If we are out and about I use pacifier wipes if they hit the ground and never let him put them back in his mouth first.  I also don't put his pacifier in my mouth to "clean it" and then give it back to him.  I saw a friend do this and about barfed.  I do think it is important to put your LO down on the floor and play though, how is he going to develop and become mobile if you don't put him on the floor?  My DS spends most of his play time on the floor.

  • LOL, no, not at my house.  If we are somewhere that I am not in charge of cleaning, then yes, I do.
