Small red bumps/rash...any ideas? Updated with the answer

DS woke up with a rash pretty much all over his body...most pronounced on his face and back. It's little red bumps. He's acting fine, no temp. DH said he napped a little more than usual yesterday. We were told had slight excema before but it was always a little localized spot.  Just called the pedi and we are have an appointment in an hour and a half. Just wondering if any of your little ones ever had something similiar and had any thoughts on what it could be.

  • Did you get an MMR vaccine this week? We were told rash and slight fever are possible side effects within 7-10 days of the shot.

He had Hep A and Prevnar on Monday evening.  Just read the handouts for both and neither mentions rash being a side effect.

  • Maybe roseola?  DS had it a couple months ago.  We thought he was teething because he had a fever and then slept almost all day. Then the next day the fever was gone and he had a rash all over his belly and back.

  • Dd gets a rash like that one her back neck and chest if she gets too hot. I have to keep her in tank tops or it gets bad.  Could it be a heat rash?

  • N had something similar when he was maybe 3 months old.  The pedi said it was a virus.  It lasted about 3 days.  Could be that, or not :)  Hope he feels better!

This is my first thought, although DD was very fussy and didn't nap and even stopped sleeping well at night.  Her fever was very low grade.

  • It's hand, foot and mouth Crying My poor baby. Pedi said she could see a couple of sores in his mouth and his throat is red. This explains the fever Sat evening and him generally not being himself at his party on Saturday. He seems to be feeling OK, maybe napping a little more than usual so hopefully he will sleep the virus off. Funny thing is he had his 12mo visit Monday evening and nothing came up them. Thinking he probably got it at the aqarium. We took him last Thursday for his b-day and it's certainly the most crowded place he's ever been.
