Pregnant after a Loss

Pumps, and I'm sure this has been discussed many times.

With DD, BF'ing didn't come easily to her and with her bad reflux and my supply level, we ended up moving to formula.  I want to try again with this baby, but feeling very skeptical if I can do it or not.  I've started researching pumps, because I will be working FT after 8 weeks.

So, with all of that said, what pump do you recommend?  This all seems so overwhelming to me.  :(

  • I have decided to get a Medela.  I also just took a BFing class at the hospital where I'm delivering and LC who taught the class said there was nothing better (in her opinion) than the Medela pumps (either hospital grade or available at retail.)  She preferred the pump in style, but also said many of her patients have really been liking the Freestyle.  Her opinion was the Medela ones mimic most closely the actual BFing that a baby does, and that gives a better experience, I guess.  I haven't decided between the pump in style and the freestyle yet, but I will get one or the other.  That said, I will hold off getting mine until I know that LO and I are successful at BFing.  I'd hate to spend the money only to never use it.

I've done quite a bit of research and plan to go with the Medela pump in style. I've heard great things about them and it looks very easily portable. I also plan to wait until we have BF'ing established to purchase mine since they are pricey and easily ordered online.

  • With DD I got the Medela Pump in Style Advanced. I bought it right after she was born and kept it sealed in the package until I was sure I would use it and kept checking the return date. It worked great for us, I used it at work until DD was 15 months old.

  • I had problems with pumps for my first DD. Only a hospital grade pump would work - so I just rented it from the hospital. I plan to do the same thing this time around - I got enough milk with the hospital grade pump, but not with my Pump in Style.

When I took a breastfeeding class while I was pregnant with Noah the LC said the same thing! If I decide to get a pump I will probably go for a Madela, but I'm still not sure if I'll be getting a big pump or just a manual one for the occasional outing.

  • The Medela PISA was my BFF for a year. I used the hospital grade pump in the hospital to help supply come in which I think was a good idea.

I had a medela with DD (9 years ago).  It was great. It stored nice and looked like a purse and was electric/battery operated. It was also a double pump which was nice.

  • I have the Medela PISA and used it for about 15 months. I also have a bra with holes to put the shields in so I could use my hands for working at the computer at work (have my own office).
