Differences between boy/girl pregnancies

Have any of you who have had both boys and girls(not twins but separate pregnancies) experienced different symptoms with each one? With my son I had very bad morning sickness and was throwing up pretty much everyday. With this pregnancy I have been sick but defiantly not as bad as last time. I heard morning sickness is worse with boys than with girls. I know every pregnancy is different no matter what the gender but I'm just curious if anyone had the same or different symptoms with each gender. Im kinda starting to wonder if I have a little girl in there this time!

Re: Differences between boy/girl pregnancies

  • I'm wondering the same. I had very little m/s w/ DD and much more this time (although it changes day to day). Boy, maybe? I'm not putting too much stock in it, though. The guys in DH's family have a hard time having boys. His brother has 4 girls. However, DH's dad had no problems (DH has 2 living brothers and one that died of SIDS long before he came around). My SIL says she was sicker with her last girl than with any of the other 3 so that might throw the theory out of the water...

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?...But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:26-27&33-34

I barely had any m/s with my two boys. This morning I threw up for the first time when pregnant. I don't subscribe to those old wives tales. It means nothing. I also thought you were supposed to have more m/s with girls than boys.

  • Actually that's backwards. Generally, morning sickness is worse with girls. Girls are also more likely to give you hyperemesis (super M/S)
  • I had NO morning sickness with my first two pregnancies (both boys) with my 3rd I was extremely sick up until about 17 weeks & that was a girl. With this surprise pregnancy I have only been a little nauseated which leads me to believe I have another little man in there. :)

  • I had a wonderful no m/s pregnancy with my DD.  this pregnancy is 100 times worse with all day car sick feeling, heartburn, nausea.  My thoughts are this is a boy but I don't know if that is because I would love a little boy to complete our family or that since they are so different I assume that it is a boy.

Either way, boy or girl, we are so excited to add to our family, I am hoping this ends in 4 weeks!

  • With DS, I had severe morning sickness, headaches constantly from 5 weeks onwards to 28-30 weeks. This pregnancy so far has been forgiving and no morning sickness. However, I am ravenous all the time and I have no food aversions like with DS. Makes me wonder if this could be a girl. To be seen.

  • With DD I had horrible morning sickness from weeks 8 to 14.  I had a complicated pregnancy with her compared to DS.  I was swollen everywhere, had the beginning of pre-e toward the end of my pregnancy, my kidneys were failing.  I craved fruits and pickled okra, lots of spicy things too.

With DS I was queasy, but never threw up.  Pregnancy was not complicated at all.  No swelling, no high BP, kidneys worked just fine.  I craved hot dogs, burgers, all kinds of junk.

Needless to say, I'll be very shocked if we aren't team blue this time around!

DD: 6/30/09. Mild pre-e DS: 9/5/10. Normal pregnancy Diagnosed 6/4/12 with dermatomyositis. Currently on Prednisone and IVIG therapy. 9/11/12: Normal a/s for DS2. No side effects from my medication, yay! DS2: 1/28/13. Thankful for healthy children! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker image
  • A friend of mine was team green for both of her pregnancies. She had a boy first and with her 2nd pregnancy she swore it was a girl because the pregnancy was totally different- she had another boy.

My friend's mom had the exact same pregnancy for both her children (this was pre- u/s times). She had a boy first and was sure the second was a boy- nope, it was a girl!

My sister has 5 kids. The first 2 were boys, she had horrible m/s with both. The second 2 were girls, very little m/s with those two and no m/s with #5.

I had m/s with my first- a girl. No m/s so far.

  • It's nice to think it means something, but really I think it's just that every pregnancy is different - boy or girl. I was hardly sick with minimal symptoms with my DS and I have been sick with lots of symptoms this time. It's nice to think that could mean girl, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

  • I've heard differing opinions on which sex is supposed to make you sicker, I don't put too much stock into it, but it is fun to guess. There's some other "signs" later on in pregnancy that people say can help you predict. One is how you carry; I've heard boys tend to be straight out and up high and with girls you tend to get wider and carry lower. I've known people this was true for (myself) and people this wasn't true for. Another fun old midwives tale: some people get a brown line up their stomach (hormonal changes). They used to believe that if the line went all the way up your stomach it meant it was a boy.

  • Every pregnancy has been different, regardless of sex.  The only things I noticed between girl and boy pregnancies was that I got fat all around with the girls and I seemed to only get fat in my belly with the boys.  I also had horrible skin and mood swings with the girl (must have been the hormones) and didn't have that with the boys.
