Used pump?

Hello!

This is my first time posting on this board and I was wondering if it would it be weird to buy a used breast pump on craigs list?  I am a first time mom so I have no idea if this is just not something you should buy used (like a car seat and crib) or if its fine to sanitize and use.  I think someone mentioned I should buy a "closed system"  Would the "Medela pump in style" qualify as this?

    I would only buy a closed system and I don't think the Medela models are, except for the hospital grade ones. The ameda purely yours is a closed system.

    Hey,

    To my knowledge, that one isn't closed at all.  The only closed system medela is the symphony plus...it's hospital grade.  This is the one I am borrowing from my best friend (who's SIL is a labor and delivery nurse and the hospital she works at allowed employees to purchase at a discounted rate and she got one for my BFF with her LO two years ago).  Since it's closed and she's the only one who's used it and offered for me to borrow it (she's also getting me new shields and tubes, etc. as my shower gift.  I'm in!

    I thought the Medela Pump in Style was a closed system, but I looked it up and it's not. I have a used one that was given to me by a close friend (and that I use all new tubing with), but I definitely wouldn't use one from a stranger.

    I also purchased a used hospital grade medela pump - lactina select. It is also a closed system, no chance of mold, bodily fluids, etc getting into the inner workings of the pump. All hospitals, doctors, and Medela advised to NEVER purchase or use a single user system such as all the medela store models.

    thank you all so much.  I guess I will just bite the bullet and purchase a new one.  I don't want to risk any type of cross contamination.

    Only hospital-grade pumps are approved for multiple users. Exceptions that I know about: Hygeia Enjoy & PJ Pump. I wouldn't use any others because diseases can be transmitted via BM. However, you'll find a lot of moms on here who used 2nd hand pumps and haven't had any issues.
