Cant take deep breath

In order for me to take a deep breath, I have to force it.  I feel like my breathing is very shallow.  I dont get out of breath (like I'm doing cardio) but it is hard to breath in and out.  Like someone is sitting on my chest.  It is making me lightheaded.  Thoughts, ideas?  Is this going to pass?

Re: Cant take deep breath

  • I know my allergies are pretty bad right now and are making it tougher to breathe normally. But maybe it's your uterus taking up a lot of room in there and pushing everything up? I read that will happen, eventually. Especially if you have a short torso?

Or maybe I just made that up? Either way, hope you get some relief soon!

  • me too.  I know that since space is becoming limited in our abdomens we do not have the same lung capacity as before...this shortness of breath while uncomfortable is normal.  Just a few more months and we can breath freely!

  • I get this too...standing up or lying on my left side seems to help somewhat.

  • I mean, it makes sense that baby is taking up my lung space...but baby isnt even that big yet!  I just worry a little because I genuinely feel like I could fall over while walking due to this.  It makes me feel like I'm walking while on a boat or something.  I was so much bigger with DS1 and never had it.  Oh well!

  • I felt this way when pg with DD1. It will likely get better when you deliver the baby, not sooner ;(

  • Yep, I'm experiencing this, too.  Coupled with my allergies, it's no fun :(

  • This has been happening to me for weeks!  It's uncomfortable, especially after I eat a big meal or if I've been sitting for a while.  I've been told that putting your arms over your head will help make room in your torso...but for me, standing up and moving around helps the most.
