How long did it take lo to "get it"? She has been using a regular sippy cup for months and we want to transition to a straw sippy cup. Poor thing keeps trying to tilt it back but that is not how it works.
DS took to the straw before he took to the regular sippy. I say just keep giving it to her and it will probably click one day!
This. Z never would never use a regular sippy, so kept trying to give her a straw one. I was worried she's never get it, but one day it just clicked, like PP said. Honestly, I was shocked, but happy of course.
I'm in the same boat. Cole just doesn't get the straw cup yet! We started giving him like organic pouches of veggies or whatever and he only just started being able to suck that out. So I'm hoping he kind of understands now and can get it!
I have the opposite problem! DD refuses to tip a cup back so the only thing I could give her is a straw. I'm convincing myself it will help her in the long run not spill a regular cup when we get to that... yeah that's it....
DH and I drink out of straws (Tervis tumblers) and she started showing her own interest in them, so we'd let her practice with ours. When we gave her a straw sippy, she knew exactly what to do. Maybe you can use straws around her and she will try to mimick you?

I had this problem until I realized you could take the bottom part of the straw out of the sippy cup so it works just like a regular spout, but the top part is a straw. (Does that make sense)? So he can still tip it back and use the straw. We use the Munchkin brand.
for a while and I also just gave up and then one day I was like "oooh lets give this a try" and that day he got it. The whole day he would try and and drink and cry and throw it and then pick it up again and try till finally he figured it out. This was a month ago and he still tilts it back sometimes

This is what our dd is currently doing. I still want her to get water so I have to give her the other sippy cup. I hope she catches onto it soon.

I wanted to make sure my son was off of bottles by 12 months so I started offering my son a cup (with a tiny bit of water or formula in it) at about 6 months.I bought the little cups with the handles recommended for 6 months + (Playtex brand). They have a spot on the side of the cup where you can squeeze and the liquid comes up. I just put in his mouth and squeezed so he got the concept of where the liquid came from and then he would start to slurp/suck. He had caught on and could drink from it by 9 or 10 months with no problems. I bet your LO will pick up on it super quickly being so much older. Try buying one of those and see if she catches on!
Another idea is to start with a handheld straw. Dip the straw in the liquid, put your finger on the end to suck some up in the straw, then hold it up to her mouth. It took a few days before he was readily sucking on the straw that way. Then we put the loose straw in an upright cup and raised it to his mouth. Then we added the lid. We love the The First Years Take N Toss cups (which are holding up nicely even in the dishwasher -- I have no intention of tossing!). Finally he started lifting the cup to his own mouth. That whole straw process took a couple of weeks, but we were dealing with a child that had silent reflux (hence, we didn't really know what was happening) so bad that he stopped drinking ALTOGETHER.
Just realized you said you are having an issue with tilting, so I don't know if the above helps, but maybe?
It took DD maybe 2 tries with the straw sippy. She never got the hang of a regular sippy. We use these playtex sippys and you can squeeze the bottom a little to push liquid up the straw so LO knows there is water in there. She's been using it since about 6 months with no problem.

Right, & that's why they invented this https://lollacup.com/
I saw it on Shark Tank a few weeks ago, looks awesome.
We did this with the nuby ones

Unfortunately we were suckers and tried one out (for $18 freaking dollars). It leaked like crazy. Never again.
