Hi, so I finally have some time to tell you all about the birth story of our beautiful baby girl, Arianna.
My due date was June 8th. and June 8th came and went and we were all patiently waiting for that day to happen. My doc said that if she didnt come by the 14th, that she would induce me that night, and that she would be here by the 15th. So we all basically thought that I would end up being induced.
The morning of the 11th, around 4:30am, I woke up and had to use the bathroom, I started to feel these teeny tiny cramps but didnt think anything about it. By 6am, those cramps turned into do-able contractions, so I text messaged my nurse (we work together) and I asked her if she thought I should head to the hospital or if I should come by the office to get check. (my hospital is about an hour away) She told me to come by the office around 8am to get checked. So thinking I had enough time, I took a shower and woke up my husband and sister to tell them that I would be going to my doctors office, and that I needed one of them to take me, incase they sent me to the hospital.
When I got in the shower, I started having stronger, closer together contractions, and when I got out of the shower I started timing them. They were roughly 2 minutes apart and lasted about a minute or so. I got dressed, and told my husband that I think I'm going to skip going to the doctors office and just go straight to hospital. So I called my nurse, and told her they were coming on stronger.
So we all start heading to the hospital and my contractions really start to hit hard. But when I get there, the nurse says I'm only 2cm dilated, and that if I dont dilate more, that they will have to send me home. She told me to start walking a bit, and to come back in an hour and she'll check me again. 30 minutes went by, and I started to get very nauseous, and threw up. My nurse said she'll check me again, and I was 4cm! They would let me stay in, and soon they would take me into my delivery room.
from the very beginning of my pregnancy I had said that I would definitely want an epidural. And I made sure to let everyone know that I needed it sooner than later. Well ofcourse, there are all these protocols that you have to go through before getting your epidural, one of which was getting an entire IV bag into my system before they gave me one. So while I was heavily contracting, and in agonizing pain, I was literally watching this little thing drip drip drip into my body. I was counting down the seconds until I could get the little needle into my back! When my bag was finally empty, I told them to get the doc asap to give me my epi! They made me wait and wait and wait. I kept asking and asking... no one was coming... when they finally did come, they kept having to restart the process because I kept having contractions! Next thing I know, I feel something very very wet, and I had this sudden urge to push. I couldnt do anything else but push! The nurse flipped me over, and told me not to put. How do I not push?! I needed to push!! The next thing I know, one of then nurses are saying "merconium, call the NICU". The doctors were in, and all around all I could see were people. Including my sister, and my husband who originally said wasnt going to be in the room, but last minute he felt like he needed to be in there with me. All I can remember is telling them to get her outta there! And I couldnt believe I was doing this without an epidural! I wasnt going to be able to do that, I didnt train for it, I never thought it would be possible for me to push her out on my own, with feeling her coming out! But it happened, and I did it. We did it! Me and my little Arianna. We pushed through! Literally! About 6 or 7 sets of pushed, and I had my little girl in my arms (after she was checked for merconium)
From start to finish everything took less than 10 hours! First time mom here! and I went totally natural..!!
So my husband and I would like to welcome, our daughter, Arianna Nahari Sulaiman, into the world.
June 11th 2012 6lbs 11oz 20 inches.
