Never really used her snuggle wrap...she liked to sleep all sprattled out and hated being constricted!
A regular stroller....I much rather use her jogging stroller! So much easier to maneuver!
Her crib...lol...we put her in it a few times when she was upset so she thinks its a prison...she sleeps every night in our Luv Sac...can't blame her! Sure is comfy!!
What did you get or buy that has been worthless to you?
Re: What was your completely worthless baby item?
Both my kids hated being swaddled too. So all those swaddling blankets and wraps were a waste.
We never really used our baby monitor unless we were out on the deck because we live in an apartment.
Crib bedding is a major waste... only used the sheet.
DD hated the swing, but DS loved it.. so that wasn't a complete waste.
Pacifiers - bought 5 different kinds and he wouldn't take them.
We got the whole travel system which was a COMPLETE waste of money. DD hated her car seat, so the only time she was in it was in the car-there was no way she was going in it in the stroller also. I just carried her with my Moby all the time. So I think we used the stroller twice, and both times were just to haul "stuff" around when we went out to events. This time it will be just the infant seat with 2 bases.
We also had DH's cradle that his parents used when he was born, but we never used it. It didn't seem terribly safe to me, and it was too much extra work to use it. We just ended up co-sleeping a lot.
We kept things pretty minimal actually so didn't have a lot of things that we didn't use. One thing that we actually liked and used was the wipes warmer. I used that until DD was potty trained actually.

My BFP Chart
Wraps and swaddles were a waste for us too. Same with mittens and pacifiers.
We were thrown a curve ball with DS as he grew sooo quickly for the first 6 months - we started at 8lbs and 52 cm long leaving hospital and at 6mths were at 23.3lbs and 72 cm long.
So he flew thru his clothes and ended up being too heavy for some of the equipment we bought him even tho most of it said it cld be used up to 9mths or even 12mths.
Im a planner and so had bought most of his things before he was born and I was gutted that he cldnt really use them. I wont be doing that again. I did keep the boxes so they are packed away waiting for the next arrival.
Oh and bottles! we chose all our bottles, breast pump, sterilizer as a kit. We went with Avent but our boy had a real hard time with them at first as the teats were too big for him. We ended up buying both Tommee Tippee and Nuk in panic and desperation to try and get the boy to feed.
So I wld hold back on getting a whole load of one type jic. We have been ok with the Avent set since bubs was 3 mths but thats just lucky I think.
We have used the heck out of our pack-n-play itself, but we bought one of the fancy ones with a changing table, mobile, vibration/music, the works. We barely used the bassinette portion of the pack-n-play and we never used the rest of that stuff. We didn't even have the opportunity to use the bassinette with DS2 because he exceeded the weight limit even at birth
Other than that, I think we used most of the rest of our stuff. I actually loved my travel system, but if I had to do it over again, I would have bought an infant seat with a higher weight limit. Again, because of his size, DS2 was only able to use our infant seat for 3 months and then he was too big for it. It's really hard to go grocery shopping with a 3 month old without an infant seat because at that point, he was unable to sit up in the grocery cart.
The changing table and diaper genie.
I wasnt going to lug him up the stairs every time he needed his diaper changed so it usually happened on the living room floor. Also, why would you want to save up a ton of dirty diapers in his room until its full at the end of the week instead of just throwing them out and then taking out the trash every day?

The swing. DS wasn't a fan, but every child is so different when it comes to things like that.
We also had one of those doorway jumpers, but by time DS was able to use it he was almost too heavy for it {he was a big boy} so it only got used a couple of times.
Crib Quilt--I splurged and got a PBK's bedding set for my son. I love, love, love it but he is 18 months old and I still haven't taken the tag off of the quilt. The bumper, crib skirt and sheet have been well used!
Bottle warmer--I nursed and pumped till my son was 10 1/2 months and never used the bottle warmer. I tried it once and it got the milk way to hot. Total waste of money for us.
The Graco stroller that came with the carseat. I love my jogger. It is so durable, light and easy to push.
Bottle Warmer. Used it once and hated it. never used it again. It was just another thing on our counter and at 4am you don't want to be messing around with all that jazz.
I also invested in way too many newborn size clothes. I had a ton and she only wore them for the first 4 weeks or so.... should have invested in bigger sizes.
I LOVED our travel system and my DD still uses the stroller on various occasions when we need it. I had some trouble fitting it in the trunk of my tiny little saturn but I did manage to make it fit every time. I hear a lot of people hating them, but I loved mine.
Burp clothes, DD never spit up.
Those cart cover things, never used it. DD also didn't like the swing, but our friends babies used it all the time when they came over, so not a total waste.
WTHeck is the difference between a car seat and an infant seat?!

The crib!!!
Thankfully he sleeps in it now.... He didn't for the first 10 months and then we moved and stayed with my parents and he used their crib.... This past year was the only time he actually slept in it!
We got a travel sized pack and play, I would NOT recommend it! He is WAY too big for it now and was way too big for it before a year. The full sized ones fold up to about the same size, so I wish we would have just gotten the full sized one.

Jealous! DS loves them way too much now!!!
Pacifiers, our travel system, any bottle other than the playtex ventaire, and our battery operated swing. I totally want to buy a plug in swing this time around, it seriously is the way to go.
Pp- an infant carseat is the one you can carry around with a handle. Most convertible carseats (like the graco myride 65 that DS is in now) fit infant all the way up to when they move into a booster almost I think. If you buy the right range convertible, you get to buy one less carseat. DS hated being in the carseat snapped into our stroller anyway. He preferred being worn, so I wore/wear him everywhere.
Crib bedding, pacifiers, burp clothes (we NEEDED to use receiving blankets instead, horrible reflux). I would not buy the travel system if I was buying all things new again, but I don't hate it.
The bottle warmer was OK when I was giving DD milk I pumped, but after that, we didn't warm bottles. IMO it makes it to hard when you are out and can't warm a bottle.
Anything swaddle related, she hated being swaddled.
Burp cloths. I can count on two hands the number of times DD has spit up. We got lucky there. Also, receiving blankets except the A&A ones which I used for swaddling.
This is a fun thread as most of the things people hated we loved in our house! I'm most surprised that people don't use their strollers! I babywear, but also use my stroller every day, but I guess that has to do with the fact that I get around on public transport (city livin) and don't use a car during the day. Also love the changing table (have never changed DD anywhere else except a few times in the middle of the night the first few months), swing, swaddle blankets, and pacifiers.
We didn't buy/get a bottle warmer, wipe warmer, or diaper genie and I can't say I feel I'm missing out at all. Can't imagine we'd ever use them. I take the trash out every day or every other day and diapers just go with that.
One thing I wish I had was a bouncer. Definitely getting one for this next LO!
We bought the Rainforest Jumperoo and our little guy LOVED IT!! wld recommend it to every parent - has been worth every penny :-) Prolly wld be our best baby buy.
I think the lesson from all of this is -- every baby is different. You never know until it's there what you're going to use and what you're not. Lots of people say they don't use a bottle warmer, but we used it multiple times a day every day.
I don't think there was anything we had that we never used. The Bumbo was very short lived, but we did use it for about 3 weeks.

crib bedding, I'm only getting a sheet and a breathable bumper this time.
Bumbo seat. I just didn't find it useful
We could have done with out the jumperoo. Maybe next time just a doorway one.
Violet Mae born 1/15/13
Absolutely!
We did use many of the things other people mentioned (changing area, pnp, swing, crib, travel system, burp cloths).
For us, DD hated the bouncer--yet, as we see, others thought it was the best invention ever.
Swaddlers, Bumbo, Travel System stroller- we used the Bob instead, crib quilt, bottle warmer.
We couldn't have lived without our swing, Angelcare monitor, Bob stroller, LOTS of burpcloths and sleepers- DD had really bad reflux, Moby wrap, Pack & Play- we used it as a changing table in the living room and a travel crib when traveling.
Bottle warmer. Wipe warmer. Diaper Champ. Pack N Play. GIANT diaper bag.
Things we would have died without: Cradle swing. Miracle Blanket swaddler. Nuk pacifier. Avent sterilizer.
