So right after I got pregnant, I felt my cervix and it felt soft and slightly open. This was like over three weeks ago. I didn't think much about it. I just went to the bathroom and there was the teensiest bit of brown in my undies. Not when I wiped. Undies only. So I, um, poked around a bit and felt my cervix again and it feels even softer and more open. Isn't it supposed to be hard and closed right now? Should I worry? So sorry for the TMI but google isn't helping.
Re: Cervix Question - Definite TMI
I'm guessing you are fine. I've been spotting everyday since I found out and my doc seems to say it's no biggie as long as it's not a lot and not with cramping also. Random spotting can be caused by several things. As for your cervix....not sure. Maybe it takes a couple weeks to completely close and get the mucus plug.
When is your next OB appt? You can ask then!
Good luck either way!
This. There are huge groups of women that check their cervix daily to confirm ovulation. I'm guessing the OP was one of those women since she seems comfortable with finding and describing her cervix.
Or do you mean you don't think it's safe during pregnancy? Is that what you meant?
ETA: nevermind! I see you meant only during pregnancy. Got it! Carry on!

It's safe, for the same reason sex is safe. I'm actually not remotely comfortable checking or describing it (didnt do it when trying to conceive--used an OPK instead) but was concerned and thought people might know the answer. I find that it's usually hard to shock these ladies, esp when you're concerned and hoping for reassuring answers
I was reading (I'm almost 100% sure it was from the Mayo clinic book, but it may have been from another book) about how there might be bleeding during the apt with your doc because the cervix something-or-others (ligaments? Muscles?) are becoming softer due to the hormones so it will be able to stretch during pregnancy. (It is also turning colors!)
Anyway, the book was saying not to freak out if you bleed a little after the exam when you have never bled after a pelvic exam because the hormones are making you more sensitive and the tissue is more easily ripped. Sounds like you did a bit of a pelvic exam on yourself. I would be careful only because it would suck to get an infection in a cervix abrasion.
Yes, that would suck. Luckily, my fingernails are so short I couldn't scratch anything even if I tried.
Thanks for the cite to the Mayo Clinic book. If Mayo says soft is normal, that makes me feel much better
