"Princess" - Oh, hell no.

If I have a little girl, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE, is allowed to call her "Princess" to her face.  Unless she is dressed up as one for Halloween.

I know of 3 grown-ass women whose dads still call them Princess... they are whiny, spoiled, and catered to in a sickening way.  Bleck!

Re: "Princess" - Oh, hell no.

  • I don't like the term princess either or anything with the words princess. I do like the disney princesses but that is different.

  • I said that once.  DD's name is Victoria and my dad now thinks it's hilarious to call her "Queen Vic" since princess is off limits.

  • Haha good luck. I think people will ALWAYS call little girls "Princess", including strangers. I'm having a little girl and I completely forgot about this until now! I'm not looking forward to this. I hate that pet name, yuck.

  • My dad used to call me Princess but only sarcastically when I was being a brat. His usual nickname for me is Goober... not at all a princessy nn lol

  • I call my dog Princess, and she's super prissy. I refuse to call any daughter that I may have the same thing. The closest I will have to a princess is "Daddy's Little Punk Princess", which my husband insists on and I am okay with only because the punk puts a completely different connotation on the term.

  • My family is pretty respectful in this sense.  A couple times, people had given DS nicknames that I didn't like.  I said so in a quick, matter-of-fact way, and they knew I was serious.  The nicknames weren't used again.

His name is Jack, and we'd gotten "J.D." and "Jackie/Jackie Boy".  Squashed that shiz quick.

  • I also call my pit bull princess haha and even that's a joke. I hate it when people call little girls princess! Yuck.

I hadn't even thought about that!!! Ugh...hm...I'm not sure why people feel the need to call girls princesses.  But, I'm not sure if I'm any better than the "Princess-Callers" because instead of using "Princess", I use "Girlfriend". Not sure that's really any better...maybe only slightly better than "Princess".

  • Ugh, I asked my MIL to please not call DS Prince... and she still does.  It drives me bananas!

Hey - not related to this, but... you should E-mail community@thebump.com and see about getting your SN changed so that it's not your email address. Internet security and trolls and such....

I have already done that. But thank you for looking out! Smile

  • The only time I'd ever call my daughter a Princess would be sarcastic/pointing out princess-y behaviour.  No way is that happening, I totally agree.

  • This is why I'm petrified to find out our gender. I do not want any of those "Princess" or uber-girly things. DH and I were talking last night and we are not really equipt to deal with that. I never had it, he's nervous he knows nothing about Disney princesses, and it really rubs us the wrong way. We do have "Princess" nieces. Literally, its on their clothes among other items and SIL has already said she's sending said clothes if its a girl... which she's hoping I have so she can get rid of all of it. This is why I really want to be Team Green!

  • I personally think there is a difference between just using the nickname in general, and using the nickname but then also treating them in a spoiled manner. I don't personally mind the nickname. I don't plan on using it, but wouldn't mind if someone else called my little girl that (if I have one). Just thought I would put my 2 cents in. Work is a little slow today Stick out tongue

  • HA this is the first think FIL said when we told them it's a girl: "Well, she'll be our little princess then, eh?"

I didn't think anything of it. There wasn't a single girl in DH's generation of cousins (against all odds; he has something like 20 cousins) so I was expecting a reaction in that vein.

This makes me seriously laugh! I bet he is so proud of himself!

I too hate princess anything. There weill be none of that shiz in our house or on our little girl! DH hates it as well!

  • I have a "self-rescuing princess" t-shirt from thinkgeek:

    https://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/womens/b3e7/

They come in child sizes. If it's a girl, she's so getting one. Possibly in multiple sizes. I hate the princess "thing" so much it hurts, but I really like my shirt :)

It's the only 'princess' shirt allowed though. And my husband hates the nickname as much as I do, thank god.

Or when any prepubescent girl has anything written across the bum of their shorts.

    Angry

Actually, no matter the age. I don't like them.
