3rd Trimester

Stupid placenta...I have to have a c-section :(

I know the important thing is a safe delivery for me and the baby but my placenta is still low (almost covering cervix) and my dr. said I will most likely have to have a c-section.  They will do one more u/s at 36+plus weeks to decide for sure.  I am not sure why but I am bummed.

  • That's understandable, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope it moves on out of the way for LO.

  • If you have questions, go to the c/s board.  Very helpful.  And FWIW, I've had two scheduled c/s, both have been really great experiences and my recoveries no harder than any of my vaginal birthing friends'.  I was offered an option to try VBA2C this time and had zero interest.  Scheduled c/s tend to be a little easier to heal from than emergency ones, it seems.

    Good luck!

  • It can be disappointing, especially if you have been planning your birth a certain way.  We are breech, so I know exactly how you feel...and my LO dropped firmly, butt down into my pelvis...argh!  I REALLY wanted an intervention free, un-medicated birth.  DH thinks I am nuts for feeling sad that I won't get to push a watermelon out of my vag.

On the bright side, if it is a planned section they go (from everything I have read) much more smoothly and recovery is easier than an emergency section.  You can prepare yourself for after...try to stay positive -- and be happy that your baby will be here soon with a nice, round head :)

  • What week are you?   Mine was still low at 28 weeks and has moved now at 30!

It it 2.51 cm away (so I made it by .1).   My doctor said that there is hope until 35 weeks... especially if you are remotely close.

If you are 35 weeks or more-- I understand why you are upset.  I would have been too.   That suck!   I hope you and baby have an uneventful delivery whether c-section or not!

    Good luck!

  • I'm sorry I'm in the same boat. I have another ultrasound at at 30 weeks but it's fully covering the cervix and hasn't moved at all since we found out at 19 weeks so my doctor is very confident that I will be having a c-section. I'm bummed about it too since I had such a great/easy delivery with my first son. I was hoping for the same with this lo.

  • My first was an emergency c-section, and I've chosen a planned c-section for the one coming in two weeks.  I was really against having a c-section the first time, but in retrospect, it doesn't matter.  I got my healthy kid, and that's what matters.

Here are some positives about a C-section

-more disability pay, at least at my job

    -easy to schedule help

    -no labor pain

-no episiotomy - boy have I heard some horror stories

I hope you are able to overcome the disappointment in time to really enjoy the experience of giving birth.  It's really awesome.

  • I'm sorry your placenta isn't a good listener.  You should punish it once you deliver.

    Good luck!!!

  • Maybe you can eat it once your all done..LOL...

I had a c-section. No biggie..Just make sure you get up as soon as they let you ! Its key to a faster recovery ! & take your pain meds !

Im hoping for a VBAC actually this time. But we'll see how things go. Last time I never went into labor & my son was 9.14lbs.
