Like PP said, our bodies are made for this, so clearly we can handle the pain. I really hope to have a meds free birth this time. I had to have a csection last time, and that was really disappointing.
first of all--there is no way to measure pain objectively.
Secondly, I've given birth without medications, and I would certainly not compare it to breaking bones.
Finally, I hate this, because it's so disempowering. Our bodies are designed for this. This kind of BS is what makes women afraid to give birth naturally.
I agree. I mean, I haven't given birth but I'd much rather give birth than break bones!

This is my first and honestly this did scare me. I've never broken a bone though but heard they hurt so bad. I'm wanting to do a natural water birth and this had me thinking maybe I was insane. But I figured women did it before and still do with no meds and survive so can I. Still makes me feel a little better that a lot of you seem to have had children before and think it's crap. I'll breathe normal now.
I also had a med free birth with Ds. No way the pain is comparable to bones breaking. Birth is a natural pain- your body creates endorphins and other chemicals that help you cope. There are also blissful breaks in between where you get to relax with out feeling pain. Breaking a bone is unnatural- it's a constant pain that your body isn't familiar with.
Ftr- My birth was not the most painful thing I've experienced. Stop reading things like that or you're going to sabatoge your plans for a med free birth before you even go into labor! Read positive stories, visit the Natural Birth board, and surround yourself with supportive people!
It takes a special amount of bitch to induce menstruation in another person. - LovelyRitaMeterMaid
I had a natural birth the first time (no choice or time for an alternative), an epidural the second time. Even so, this offends me. Like a PP said, there's no objective way to measure pain. And it just makes the birth experience scary to people who haven't done it. I opted for the epidural the second time because I didn't like the pain. However, if I couldn't have had one, or if it didn't take, I was completely prepared and OK with that. I wasn't scared of the pain--I just chose, for myself, a pain free alternative. But, women wouldn't be having more than one kid if it was something unbearable.

All of this. Pain is only temporary. We were made for this. Went all natural for my first with the exception of induction, 24 hours of labor. It can be done! Best of luck to you all!

Man that makes it sound horrible. Though I have never broken a bone *knock on wood*, so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I want to go med free but will definitely show this to my DH!
