TTC After a Loss

Dumb EWCM & O question

I know you ladies aren't doctors and I'm not charting so that's no help, but I wanted to ask a question about Oing related to EWCM.

Let's say you had 3 days of EWCM, the first light, the next two heavier.  The fourth day, none at all.

Monday: light EWCM
Tues: heavy EWCM
Wed: heavy EWCM
Thurs: no EWCM

Do you think it is likely that you O'd on the day in the middle, Tuesday, (and are still fertile on Wed) or O'd the last day of CM, Wed, and are still fertile the 4th day of no EWCM (Thurs)?

TIA for your advice!

Re: Dumb EWCM & O question

  • That's a tough one.  Some cycles I'll have lots of EWCM that correlates exactly with my temps and confirms O, others are zero EWCM but my temps confirm O.  That's really difficult to say, but if I had to guess I'd say O on Tues...

  • Watery CM is still considered fertile. It's not until you become dry that you're considered not fertile anymore for that month.... at least that's what TCOYF has taught me so far (I'm on page 100 - seriously good read, check it out)

  • When in doubt, hump it out. Definitely tonight, maybe even tomorrow to be safe. The egg has dropped but there's still possible time for the sperm to catch it. If you were temping, you would probably either have seen your temp rise this AM, or tomorrow morning. (assuming you did/do O)

  • Not a dumb question so don't worry!  However, temping and charting is a huge bonus and benefit if you're willing to do it.  :)

I strongly recommend purchasing Taking Charge of Your Fertility (if you haven't already). Even if you choose not to chart, it has a lot of great info. Here's what it says on this topic (italics from the author, not me):

"Once you have learned to chart your cervical fluid, you will want to use this information to determine your most fertile day. Generally speaking, this is considered the last day that you have either a lubricative vaginal sensation or produce fertile cervical fluid for any given cycle. It is called the 'Peak Day,' because it denotes your peak day of fertility. It most likely occurs either a day before you ovulate or on the day of ovulation itself (the only way to know for certain would be to have an ultrasound).... You may notice that you will only be able to determine the Peak Day in retrospect, on the following day. This is because you can recognize it only after your cervical fluid and vaginal sensation have already begun to dry up.... Also be aware that the Peak day is not necessarily the day of the greatest quantity of cervical fluid."

Given all of that, my question would be whether Thursday was a dry day for you or just not EWCM (so it might have still been creamy). Knowing that answer should help you get a better sense of the timing of O. (It's also important to note that EWCM alone is not a solid predictor of O--unless you know your own body really well and always have a regular cycle.)

Hope some of that info is helpful!

Awesome!  Thank you!  I need to pick up this book.

And...I'm still "creamy" today so I will definately be humping it out!

    Thanks everyone!

  • Jumping onto the Taking Charge of Your Fertility band wagon...remember that fertile quality fluid is a sign that your body is gearing up to O...the only way to know for sure that you O'd is to note your temp change and then by maintaining high temps after the inital shift (Charting your temps) .

My Dr. told me at my pre-conception consultation to BD every other day starting 5 days after AF ended and continue until AF comes again, you get a BFP or you are exhausted (lol).  I found it to be practical advice if you aren't charting or if your charts are wonky (like mine sometimes were).  Good luck!
