2nd Trimester

what does the early baby movement feel like?

I am in  my 18th week, and I think I am supposed to feel the baby anytime now. I am wondering what your early baby movements felt like. Its my first, so I have no idea what to expect.

  • I usually feel very little soft pokes where my uterus is. It comes and goes for less than a minute. I kind of "just knew" that it was the baby :) I never really felt flutters, sometimes I did feel like there was a goldfish in my uterus or something but usually it's the very soft pokes!

  • everyone's different. i never felt the "flutters" others seem to have felt. around 20 weeks is when i started to feel some light tapping, then the tapping turned into kicks! every week, her kicks get stronger and stronger lol.

  • Taps and flutters describe it pretty well for me.  I've heard it can also be mistaken for gas :oX

    A goldfish in your belly.
  • Early on it felt like little kid fingers lightly touching with movement.

Exactly how I would describe it!

  • light pokes or I also saw it described by someone as popcorn being popped.

  • I felt flutters once. It felt like I had butterflies in my stomach, but way further down. After that and even now it feels like muscle twitching, like when you have a facial tic. Now I can even feel the hiccups. That feels pretty much the same, except it makes my stomach jump and is rhythmic instead of sporadic.

This is what i would say it feels like. I had no idea what to expect the first time around. But this second time i totally feel little fishes. When i lay on my back totally relaxed is when i feel the little movements the easiest.

I too would describe it as popcorn popping!

  • I think it kind of feels like a twitch, kind of goes like a "blip, blip".  When you feel it you'll know.

  • Felt exactly like what a little muscle twitch feels like.  I never felt "flutters"... whatever those are haha.

  • I never understood the description of "flutters".

To me it feels like my muscles are contracting.  I don't know if you've ever worn one of those work out belts (that contract your muscles for you so you can be lazy) my friend in university had one, they're  a little crazy but THAT's what I think it feels like on a smaller scale.

  • I felt the 'flutter" once around 17/18 weeks (it felt like someone touching you very very softly). I felt the "goldfish feeling" probably around 17-now (im 20 weeks). It feels like water rushing by. Now when I lie on my back the baby will move to one side or the other and my stomach gets really hard on that side and when you touch it, the baby moves and the hard spot goes away.
  • Marbles rolling around, below the belly button.

  • It started like tiny little taps last week, and this week it's happening more regularly and it feels like something flopping around.

  • Mine felt like taps...tap, tap, tap, like baby was tapping on your insides. I started feeling that at about 17 weeks with DD.

Then at about 22 or 23 weeks, I started feeling the hiccups, which is a rhythmic tap, but more than a tap -- like a tap with a jump behind it.

  • I never felt flutters. I felt light brushing like movements, then I felt taps, and now I can feel kicks and see and feel them on the outside! I don't feel movement consistently yet though.

  • I didn't feel anything until 22 weeks Indifferent.  When she "rolls around" it feels like going down a hill in a car... more of a "tickle" than a "flutter."  I got the first kicks at 23 weeks.  You will love feeling LO move!!!

  • Definitely like baby was tapping on my insides...or like champagne bubbles in my tummy (that didn't end in a fart! Smile)

  • GAS haha! that is all I feel too LOL Currently 15 weeks!
  • I never felt flutters the first time.. I was surprised when I felt champagne bubbles popping. They became bigger and bigger bubbles, until I would describe it like popcorn. Then it was, "Oof! Stop kicking my kidneys, kid!" or "Hey, cut it out with the xylophone action on my rib cage, huh? I'm trying to be professional and you're tickling me!" :-)

  • The best description I ever heard was a muscle spasm on you uterus. I never felt "fluttering" either... I only felt the kicks first. But you can tell it apart from gas or an actual muscle spasm bc it is random in time and placement during a period of time.

  • I am 16 1/2 weeks and pretty sure I felt it for the first time yesterday.  It had been described to me as flutters or a similar sensation to gas.  Whenever I had any gas or intestinal movement I would hone in to see if I thought it might be the baby.  Yesterday around 3:00 I felt a moment very similar to that, but I had not been having any gas at all before or after, and it was felt in a different area - the right side of my body.  It's very fleeting, and only lasts for a second.
