Here is a UO for this beautiful Thursday: I sometimes get judge-y when I see someone with a Baby Bjorn and the baby is facing forward, because I read a bunch of stuff when I was researching carriers that said it is bad for their hips/groin/spine. Not very judge-y, but it does cross my mind.

I have a close friend who is 40+ yrs old that is very over weight.
She is trying TTC thru donor (she is not in a relationship or anything) and has had a few failed IVF treatments, which of course has made her very sad.
The doc tells her all the time that she should really drop a lot of weight to help with the process, obviously nothing can be done about her age.
She talks all the time about how she really wants to get pregnant and its sad that it hasnt happened yet and how she cant drop any weight.... but then eats a bag of reese cups a day at work.

So here is my UO, if you're trying to lose weight stop eating junk food. If you cut just that out I am sure it will help with your weight loss or at least help you not to gain any more weight.

It's not Thursday but I'll play along. I totally agree with the weight loss and TTC. When we first started trying with B all the books that I read said that being at a healthy weight (both the woman and the man) would really help. I have never been overweight but I did start eating a lot healthier just because I wanted any help ttc that I could get.

Hopefully your friend realizes soon that she needs to seriously think about losing some weight and it helps her.

  • Not a "UO", I'm sure:  I wish it were Thursday...
  • Most people want to keep advancing in their career in order to get more responsibility and make more money. I am the opposite, I'm really happy with where I am right now and although more money would be awesome we're comfortable and I don't think it's worth the longer hours and more responsibility. I want to spend time with my family and enjoy life.

I firmly believe work is just work and I don't bring it home with me or devote more than 45 hours a week to it. If you can't do your job within normal business hours then I think you need better time management skills. I sound like such a go getter lol.

this is totally me.  I'd like a decent raise when I go to a new position sometime this year (hopefully), but otherwise, I'm good.  If anything, I'm figuring out if it's possible for me to only work 4 days a week.  Winner over here!

Totally agree! I'm going down to 3 days/week on a trial period which isn't common at my company. I've been getting the ol' side eye and rude comments but I don't give a $hit! My family is far more important to me than my career. My kids will only be young once and if catering to them sets my career back then so be it!

I agree. Sometimes I wish I never went to university & had no real earning potential so I could SAH.

Now that I am a SAHM I kind of wish I hadn't spent all that money on a degree and wish that DH  had gone instead.   but what's done is done.

My UO if you bring your baby to the library and are sitting in the kids section, read to your baby or interact with him, don't sit there and play on your ipad while your kids sits there staring at the walls and liking the floor.  Seriously, I watched this happen today, the mom was more into her iced DD coffee and ipad and only told her baby - maybe 10 months old to stop eating the plastic play fruit, and her 3 year old was running amuck.  It was impossible not to judge.

  • my UO/confession - I don't think it's that sad when DD gets her shots and I kind of laugh to myself when others say they cry when their babies get shots.

This is me, too.  More money would be nice and I could make more if I left this job and went somewhere else.  I'm just not really all that into having a career.  I like learning new things so that I'm not bored, and more money would be nice.  But I've got it really great where I am right now, and have no plans to leave.  I rarely have to work extra hours, my benefits are great, and I can take off practically whenever I want or need to.  I don't want to give up my 5 minute commute and flexible schedule for a few more dollars that will probably get eaten up by other things related to a harder job, anyway.

Me too!!! I sort of wondered if the U/S tech thought I was weird.

My UO: speaking of crying..... I don't cry when I store Lucas' too small clothing. I am excited to make room for more!

I think when you are in a marriage/relationship it is NOT okay to throw around threats. Ex: I want a divorce, I'm going to leave you, etc. I dont think that is ever ok unless you mean it and/or have truly thought about it.  As many times as I've said things in haste, I've never used those words. If my DH said any of those things to me my heart would hurt and it wouldn't matter if he didn't mean it. I think it's cowardly and childish and it does nothing but hurt whomever it's being said to. I often question those relationships. Just to lay this out there, this is coming from a very close friend IRL and it makes me sad for them.  It also makes me thankful that both DH and I feel the same way about it.

was that a reference to Juno - and the tech just didn't get it??

  • Sorry I cannot quote. It was not an intentional reference to Juno. The anatomy ultrasound was just pretty darn unattractive.

  • My UO is that I don't put my baby in shoes, and I don't plan to untiil he can walk, and then only if we go out, in my garden he is unlikely to wear shoes either (unless its cold...I do live in Canada so this will only be true for half the year LOL), I hate wearing shoes, and I see no reason to wear them, from a development and expense POV.

I also judge my friends who always have their children in shoes, even in the hot weather because they are "cute" even when the shoes are too small...just to be clear, if you want to waste your money on shoes for this age go ahead, but don't put your kid in shoes that are too small, just because you want to get more use out of them.

I also think shopping cart covers are a marketing ploy and I put my LO in a coverless cart...I think everyone has gone germ phobia crazy.

i agree with you on the shoes part, i HATE wearing shoes, and really at this age group, they will grow out of them pretty quickly.

as for the shopping cart covers, i got one at a garage sale for like 1 buck and when you live in a place where it rains alot (vancouver Island) it will be nice to have that cover so my daughter isn't sitting in a cold wet seat. i just thought it would common sense in my opinion. its not a germ thing at all. i could care less about the germ part.

  • I got a shopping cart cover from someone getting rid of their baby stuff. I also feel like people probably think I am a germ a phobia. I use it more for DD comfort and so she can sit better. I'm a firm believer a little bit of germs are good.

Same here, only it was when we had to stay in the hospital an extra day because LO's bilirubin was too high/he had lost too much weight. Both were because he wasn't nursing enough and I felt like a total failure on day 1 of motherhood!

YES. My parents have been married for 30+ years and this is something they've always believed, and I try to do the same with DH. Not only does it keep people from being hurt with threats, but it gives you confidence that even when it's hard, you're going to stay together and work it out.

I also think that marriage is serious business, though. If I had any doubts about DH's and my relationship, I wouldn't have married him. I know a lot of people who've gotten married for all the wrong reasons and it rarely works out in the long run.

Most people want to keep advancing in their career in order to get more responsibility and make more money.

I think about this daily and I feel bad that I "wasted" 8 years in college when all I want to do is SAH.  On the bright side we can work part-time and still make really good money :)
