1st Trimester

Eating issues

I get hungry pretty often, but once I take a few bites, I'm full and feel like I'll bust if I eat anymore. I'm worried I'm not eating enough. I'm only 8 weeks but I thought I'd want to eat everything in sight. I have no cravings for anything either. I probably eat four or five times a day, but just not much.

Is anyone else having this issue?

Re: Eating issues

  • I'm on the same boat. Nothing sounds appealing and when it does, I only have a few bites and I stop before I feel sick.

I just bought a frozen bag of mashed potatoes and I warm up a little at a time when I feel nauseous. That has been going okay while I'm at work. I think fruit helps a lot too.

I've already tried ginger ale, ginger snaps, mints, lemonade and crackers. Those things don't sound appealing anymore and don't help much with nausea.

  • Mashed potatoes sound good. I will try that. I think I need to eat more fruit too. I've been munching on pretzels when I feel nauseous and it works pretty well. I just don't want to have my little one missing out on nutrients because I can't eat.

me too!  I am starving and certain foods sound sooo good.  I get so happy to finally eat and I get nauseous again.  BLAH!

  • I'm having a really hard time with us, I think I may cal my OB because I seriously know nothing to eat.  Once I eat, I only take a bite or two, and then I'm full....it's an awful feeling...

  • This must be a cruise because I'm in that boat too! LOL!

According to my Dr's office I lost 7 lbs in 4 days - (although honestly, I thought they weighed me too heavy the first time because it was 5lbs off my scale at home). The midwives were freaking out - the Dr. said it was fine.  Babies are great little "parasites" not that we want to ever consider  LO is something like that, but they are great at taking what they need from us.

I'm also starting to get dizziness so I keep snacks in my drawers - almonds, rice krispies treats and granola bars, as well as fruit in the fridge at work. A couple of bites and I'm super full though!

As my Dr said - this too shall pass! Just hang in there - and keep taking your prenatals.  Soon you'll be wondering when you'll ever stop eating. LOL!.

  • I feel relieved that someone else is having this same issue, I don't feel so alone! This is my first pregnancy, so I have NO CLUE what feels "normal" or not.  I have very little appetite, but when I do have an appetite, I feel like I can only eat a little bit!  Fruit has been pretty good, but I will also try the mashed potatoes.  I know that I have been bad and not eating enough veggies or drinking enough water, so hopefully, this phase will pass soon (I'm 9 weeks tomorrow).  Here's hoping for better appetites soon! :-)

  • I've been bloated since my LMP. Makes it really hard to eat much at all, so I eat really small snacks every 2 hours (a bagel, handful of grapes, carrots, crackers, an apple, etc). This also keeps me from getting sick.

  • I've been getting the same way. You just can't eat the same amount as you normally do. Also, try to eat slower, and eat before you get hungry. Snacking every two hours does the trick for me also. I've added greek yogurt to my diet, and add a dollop of raspberry jam to it to sweeten it up. It's a great way to get protein and calcium at the same time. I've also kept canned beans around, and just take a spoonful here and there since it has iron and calcium. I'll also toast an English muffin and spread a bit of peanut butter on for a snack. And lots of fruit for the water content. It's tough trying to figure out what to intake, but try to stick to things your body needs, and you'll feel a lot better.
  • It's scary to think that I'm only 7-8 weeks and you are a few weeks ahead of me and you STILL feel like I do. I wonder if it starts at different points for other women, but lasts roughly the same time (1st trimester).

I hope this doesn't go on for the ENTIRE first trimester...this hot summer mixed with nausea will ruin me! ; )
