Weird to have a photographer at 1st B.D. party?

Weird to have a photographer at 1st B.D. party?

We will have lots of family from out of town and I don't really want to be the one behind the camera the entire day (which I always am).  I would just like to relax and enjoy the day and also get some great pics taken.  Thoughts?

  • awesome idea! If you can afford it, do it!

  • Do you have a friend who can take the photos?  I personally wouldn't hire one, unless maybe you can find a high school or college student interested in/studying photography.

By the way, were you the one who posted a while back about your brother being arrested?  I've been thinking about you and was going to page you, but wasn't sure if I remembered your name.  If it was you, was everything resolved?

  • If you can afford it... why not :) I wouldn't have a pro photographer take staged photos or anything, but just to capture the moments. Better yet, could you hire someone who is just getting started or a student in photography? MIL hired a retired photographer for my bridal shower, friend of a friend thing, and it turned out great! We didn't have to worry about missing any of the party to take our own pics. That was nice :)

  • We're planning to do it! Just trying to find a more inexpensive photog than some of the ones we usually use.

I use to work as a photographer so it would be a friend that worked with me.

Yes, unfortunately that was me that posted about my brother.  We got the police report and our lawyer thinks it was a racially motivated arrest.  Which were my thoughts all along and the reason I posted that on here to begin with.  It stated in the report that my brother "would cause fear to the community" for being black and out at 2am.  It took us 5 days to get the money together to bail him out and we are now waiting on a court date to see where we go from here.  Thanks for thinking of us - it was such a stressful time!

  • What a fantastic idea! I never even thought of that. We will definitely hire a photographer.
  • I cannot imagine that it would be one of those things that you would regret later. Do it!

  • Since this is an old work friend but someone that I only casually talk to on myspace once in awhile - what is a reasonable amount of money to offer her?  Or should I let her say a price?  She would have to drive about 20 mins. each way from her home and would probably be at the party for 2 hours or so.
  • I just posted another response and I don't know where it went.  Hmm....
  • I just had someone who was starting out and she was a old co-worker.  She charged us $100, she came to the house for about 2 hours and took photos of the kids, and some for the holidays.  We're going to use her for DD's first birthday too.
  • I think that's a great idea!  I never thought of it, but it makes so much sense!  I think I'll borrow your idea in May!  ;)
