how to find doula

How is the best way to go about finding a Doula? I found one I lived through recommendations, she agreed to take me as a client and then called today to back out (she's not ready to leave her 5 month old yet). Here I am less than 3 months from delivery at the starting line. Just googling makes me nervous. Thanks!

Re: how to find doula

  • Ask childbirth educators in your area. (Some of childbirth educators are also doulas. At minimum the childbirth educator could know of other doulas in your area.

Check out DONA 's website:  https://www.dona.org

Go to your local Birth Network meeting: https://www.birthnetwork.org

Ask the doula who is not ready to leave her 5 month old if she can recommend someone else.

  • My midwife gave me a list of doulas she'd worked with and liked.  You might also ask the doula who backed out for recommendations.
