dd is ten months and is still not babbling. she is pretty advanced physically she walks everywhere. she makes plenty of sounds just no mama/dada/baba. my pedi said some babies focus on physical development first. anyone else like this? wwyd? thanks
I don't think you have to worry yet. ?What your ped said makes sense. My daughter is good with communication (babbling, mama, dada, and sign language) but she only recently learned to crawl and is just now starting to cruise. ?
I'll bet she'll be talking in no time and you'll be wishing for some peace and quiet before you know it! ?
I understand your worry. I've been freaking out that DD hasn't been babbling and even talked to her early interventionist about a speech eval (she was a preemie so she gets EI weekly). She would make lots of noises but her mouth wouldn't close to make the bababa, mamama, etc sounds. All of a sudden, Wednesday night she started babbling and now it's constant. I think sometimes, they just take their own time to do things and then once they start there is no looking back.
One thing, though, does your DD "talk" without babbling (cooing, making other noises)? If she doesn't look at you to communicate in any way then I would be more worried than if she's just not technically "babbling".
My DD is only 7 months but sounds similiar. She makes all kinds of sounds but we haven't heard anything that sounds like bababa, dadada, etc. She is all about physical skills. She could crawl at 5.5 months and is really good at standing and cruising right now. I am pretty sure she is going to be an early walker. Some babies just focus on different things. If she still isn't babbling at 1 year then I would get some intervention.
My cousin was the same way. My aunt used to really worry about it, but she said once my cousin hit a year old and learned how to walk all of a sudden she developed verbally and socially very quickly. My aunt now assumes my cousin was just really focused on physical development and had an inert desire to move around. FWIW, my cousin is now 6 and doing great.
