Rude checkout lady (long vent)

DH and I went grocery shopping this morning for about a months worth of food. As we were checking out the checkout lady in the next lane commented about how we do not have anything healthy in our buggy (we got mostly basic food staples and some easy meals that DH can make when I don't feel like cooking). Anyway she just keeps commenting on how I'm going to be big as house, and how none of the food is healthy. She asks us and the guy that's checking us out what do we see thats healthy? The guy stands up for us and say there's some healthy things in here. We bought maybe 4 or 5 meals that are pre-prepared and everything else I have to make a meal with.

We are about halfway through checkout and I'm just trying to ignore her but she keeps talking. She continues to say give me the baby when you become sick. I will be waiting for the baby. Just bring the baby to me. We have paid for all the food and now just waiting for them to finish bagging and she keeps talking while she has customers in her lane. Now she's saying just bring me the baby while patting me on the back.

I just leave MH there to get the food while I go back to the car just crying my eyes out. DH brings the food out and goes back in to complain to the manager. He gave us a gift card and took down DH's info. He said its serious and is sending it to the union and we should expect a call within the next couple of weeks.

How can someone think it is okay to call a pregnant lady fat, basically say that she will be an unfit parent. I wanted to punch her in the face when I got to the car. I wish people like this didn't exist. Thankfully DH calmed me with few jokes. I love him so much

i would have leapt over the lane and slugged her. that is SO not okay. i'm very glad that your DH stood up for you, that the other guy stood up for you, and that the manager was so concerned for you both.

People amaze me. I don't understand how someone can stand there and say things like that to someone. Especially a pregnant woman. It is none of her concern what you get or what you do. I'm glad your husband spoke with the manager. They definitely need to do something with her.

So rude...I would have bawled my eyes out right there in line. How dare she make assumptions....for all she knows you were buying things for a party/BBQ so even if it was unhealthy (which it sounds like it wasn't) it's a one time thing, you could have been shopping for someone else, etc....ugh...I hate when people assume...I'm so sorry you had to go through this!!

OMG, I'm so sorry she was such a horrible person and treated you that way! I'm appalled, really. That's just awful.

I'm glad you guys complained and that the manager seems like he's taking care of things. I hope she gets fired. That sort of behavior is completely unacceptable. If you think it, fine - but there's no reason to say it.

Completely unacceptable - I wouldn't have been able to keep my mouth shut if someone was like that to me. I'm glad the manager is taking it seriously and that your H said something to him. Ugh though.

OMG thats awful!! im so sorry you had to go through that! ((hugs)) i probably wouldve told her to mind her own business and i know DF wouldve had a fit! thank goodness the manager was helpful and hopefully something like that never happens to you again

i'm surprised that with the hormones going crazy you didn't say a few words to shut her up. Why should you stand there and have to listen to any of her crap...and as for her padding you on the back..um i probably would have turned around and slapped her hand away from me.. B*tch don't insult me and think its OK to touch me. People are douche bags. Hope she gets in a sh*t load of trouble. So disrespectful. Hope you have a better day.

That is so incredibly sad. She had no right to say any of those things. It really bothers me when cashiers make comments about things I purchase. Most of them are comments based on assumptions. It's so tacky.

I'm really glad your husband talked to management, and I hope she gets a reasonable punishment. So sorry you had to deal with that.

I probably would have gotten to the end of my rope and told her to STFU. I'm glad that your H told a manager, someone like that doesn't need to be working with the public if she can't keep her opinions/comments to herself. Ridiculous.

OMG. Props to your hubby for going back in. That lady should not keep her job. Regardless of someone being pregnant-don't ever comment on what someone has in their cart unless it has something positive.

As far as the whole i'll take your baby when you are pregnant-that deserves a slug in the face. OMG. Not worth going to jail over, but it would have felt darn good.

Good for you and DH for bringing it to the attention of the Manager. She definitely deserves to be held accountable for her actions. Don't count on much happening though, if she belongs to a union, she will likely just get a hand slap... but maybe it will make her think twice before being inappropriate to customers in the future.

Try not to let it get to you. People are complete idiots.

This is my reaction, too. Talking sh!t is one thing, but the second she laid a finger on me, she would have been so done.
