Im having out daughter in August and we still need to choose a doctor for her. We plan to only do the vaccinations that are absolutely necessary, and in our area it seems that pediatricians really dislike that. We've had some suggestions to use a 'family care' doctor instead because they tend to be more laid back and look at the whole picture. Do any of you use one for your babies? If so, how does it compare to using a ped. and were they able to see the baby at the hospital or shortly after you left? Thanks!
Re: Choosing a doctor for our newborn. Advice please!
We are in the same boat you're in. We meet with a few doctors and when we mentioned our plan for vaccinations, most didn't agree, but they all said it was totally up to us. I felt comfortable hearing that at least.
Both of our family care doctors aren't accepting newborns at this time, but I feel comfortable going with a peds at this stage...I like knowing that this is their specialty and they focus on this 8 hours a day.
Most peds will tell you that visits are within the first week, I heard that if they don't say that to run the other way. All of the doctors that we have spoken with have all agreed that a first week visit is standard.
Good luck!
Thanks ladies! I'm hoping to find a doctor thats best suited for our family.
Of course I wouldn't keep my baby from anything meant to protect her, however I am the one liable for her health and well being...not the Dr. If she experiences any negative side effects or adverse reactions to any vaccinations they give her, I am responsible because I consented. The Dr's have plenty of legal tape to back them up on that. So I just want to be informed on what they recommend before I consent to it. I've had several bad experiences in which I blindly trusted a medical professional and was certainly not given the best care or options for my own well being, which is why I am planning ahead.
At the very least it'd be nice to have some space between them rather than doing a bunch all at once.
