We had planned to have Her party ON her bday since it lands on a Saturday, but looking at H's pay schedule, we decided to do it the weekend after, that way he wouldn't miss two trips in one pay period, he would still miss two trips, but only one per pay period.
I said after but it's only the day after. Her birthday is on a Saturday but DH usually works Saturdays so we'll do it on Sunday. Then the next day will be my first day back to work. Yuck.

Does that make sense?
Gotcha. I didn't even think of looking at pay periods, that might be a good idea...

I voted Don't know yet because there was no SS. My answer is both before and after. We are having 2 parties. I was hoping to do his party with the whole family Labor Day weekend, which is before his birthday. But my parents and sister are away at a music festival that weekend.
Party #1 will be Labor Day weekend at our house (in CT) with DH's family and our friends here, which will be before his birthday. We will also celebrate SIL's birthday that day too since hers if 2 days after LO's.
Party #2 will be at my parents' house (in Maine) with my family and friends there the following weekend (9/8), which will be after his birthday. We will also celebrate my nephew's birthday that day since his is 5 days after LO's.
We want to have it the weekend before, because DH won't have to work. (I can more easily take any day off) but her cousin turns one 11 days before her, so we're a little worried and hope we don't have to fight over days.

B's birthday is on a Monday, Labor Day, so we thought of doing it then since I think most everyone coming would have the day off, but we will be getting back in town the day before from a wedding so I didn't want to bother. We will do it the following Saturday.

We are doing a double party with my nephew, L's cousin. My cousin's out of town wedding is on their actual birthday, which is a Saturday, so we decided to do it the Saturday before. My cousin had her wedding date set before the babies were actually born. It's kind of irritating, but at least they're too young to understand that it's their birthday.
Since her birthday is a weekday we are having it labor day weekend (saturday before her birthday) and that makes it possible for the ILs to travel. It seems fitting since I went into labor on labor day.
ETA: I do find it weird to do it before her birthday but people are more able to travel then. We'll have a special just the three of us ON her birthday (and daycare has a party).
We plan to do it the weekend before because that is when most of our immediate family is available. Also, we usually do something to celebrate our anniversary the first weekend in October because our anniversary falls mid-week.
