Need BW advice for travel

I figured I'd ask the BW experts! DD2 and I are going to a wedding in Utah this weekend (we're from MN). I plan(ned) to wear her in the moby wrap through the airport. My worry is related to the wedding itself. We will be outside for some of it. It's expected to be sunny/90s and I'm afraid we'll both roast! Would I be better off using the bjorn for that part of the day? Would that be easier in the airport, too? I'm quite comfortable using either carrier. I just want to minimize our hassle and not overheat. Thanks!

Re: Need BW advice for travel

  • We've flown quite a bit with our now 7 month old, and I never bring a stroller, just carriers.  I wouldn't recommend the Moby at all, it's way too hot! We just got back from a cross country trip, where it was in the high 80s and VERY humid.  The carrier I used the most was my wrap conversion Gira snow rainbow ring sling. I didn't even reach for my woven wrap (didy waves, which is one of the coolest) because it was that hot.   I wore her in the sling on the plane for 6 hours and not a peep out of her. She slept in it, laughed, played, etc. but didn't cry or fuss once!  People around us were amazed that a baby could be that easygoing and calm!

If you don't have a ring sling (btw, you can rent them from PAXbaby), I'd use a ssc for the plane, but not the Bjorn since they aren't the most comfortable for you or baby!  I have an O&A that I love and used once on a short flight to Vegas, just before I got my sling. But, the sling is by far the best option..easy on/off and baby can happily sit in there the entire flight. Have a fun trp!

  • Thanks for the tips! I checked out that site, but I don't think we'd have time to rent a carrier, and buying another one isn't in the cards right now. I might be able to borrow an ergo carrier from a friend, but does that require a special insert for newborns? DD is tiny for her age (preemie- now around 8.5 lbs), so she's the size of a typical newborn.

  • When is your trip? I highly rec emailing Jillian from PAX baby and she will help you out. She's awesome and very accommodating!
  • I agree the Moby is WAY too hot for outside.  I too have the Moby and love it.  So, if it were me, I would do the Moby in the A/C and then just rely on friends/family at the wedding if you have them.  I find that at parties and events I essentially have a bunch of free babysitters.  So, if you are ok with it, let your friends and family take turns holding your LO at the wedding.

We leave very early this Friday morning, so it would have to arrive by Thurs. But that site is fascinating, so I may have to check it out again before we go to a family reunion later this summer.
