Trying to Get Pregnant

Those TTGP for More Than 6 Months

I'm curious as to how many of us have regular cycles. Although I know this probably isn't true but is just my jaded "I'm never going to get pregnant" outlook, it seems to me that a lot of people trying for more than 6 months have irregular cycles (and thus not nearly as many cycles as months). I could be a poster child for regular cycles (a lot of good it's doing me), and we're on month 8 of trying. Just wondering who else is out there in a similar boat.

(Just also want to add in advance, that I, in no way, mean to imply that it's any easier to have been trying 6+ months but for less cycles than it is to have been trying for 6+months/same # of cycles. Not getting pregnant when you really want to sucks regardless of whether you're ovulating regularly or not or have short or long cycles. It's all frustrating, just in varying ways.)

  • I have pretty good cycles, as far as consistency in length and ovulation, and I'm in my 7th month of trying.

ETA: Guess I should give more info. Usually 27-28 day cycles, 11-12 day LP, ovulation between CD 13-16.

(3 months of TTC we could not time intercourse because of DH's job, so that is why it is 18 months, but only 15 cycles.) I was officially diagnosed with Unexplained Infertility on cycle 13.

  • My cycles are fairy regular. (I have LPD, but use progesterone supplements. So I guess my treated cycles are regular?)

We're dealing with MFI as well though, so there's other issues at hand with us, rather than just my cycles. Before we were Dx'd with that though, I was starting to get really frustrated because I just didn't understand why we couldn't conceive with my cycles finally being "normal"!

  • I have pretty regular cycles ~30 days, have regular ovulation, 13 day LP and  we are on cycle 13. We started testing and so far everything has come back normal for me and DH's sperm was great! I have an sis and hsg thurs and Friday and I'm hoping they find something there because if not we'll be diagnosed with unexplained infertility. I find that to be worse than anything because you don't have any answers to why you aren't getting KU! I actually stopped temping because it annoyed me to be having sex when we needed to and nothing. Now I just use OPKs and with my testing I know I O.

  • Just started cycle #8 and almost to month 10.  My cycles are fairly regular (30-40 days), with a LP consistently at 16 days.  I've O'd every month so far and we've had excellent timing each month.....

When TTC six years ago I had crazy-long cycles.....and I was still able to get knocked up on month 2 of charting.

I think that's what makes this go-round so much more frustrating/scary for me.....my cycles are "normal" and it's not "working".  I hate to think my age (almost 33) has something to do with it.....

Thanks for all the replies, ladies. First of all, I'm sorry that we're all in this boat of having tried for 6+ months (and sometimes much longer) without success. But second, it is somewhat comforting to see that I'm not the only one out there with regular cycles (ie, what seems to be a perfectly functioning system), doing seemingly everything "right," and not getting KTFU. Here's hoping we all get our BFPs soon (or at least some idea of what the "problem" is and what our options are). My sympathies go out to those with diagnosed unexplained infertility. I can't imagine how frustrating that must be.

Do the rest of you get as excited as I do when you see a BFP post from someone who has been trying for a long-ish amount of time? I can't help but feel a little surge of hope every time one of those posts appears!

  • I always thought my cycles were fairly regular, until charting! I have a lot of them - mine seem to come every 26 - 29 days. Many times I have two in a month. My LP needs to be a bit longer if anything exciting is going to happen.

My initial cycles were a mess because I had been on seasonale for so long. I figured it would be more regular by now though.

I don't understand your first few sentences.  You said you thought your cycles were regular until you started charting (implying that they are, in fact, not regular).  Then you said you have 26-29 day cycles, which sounds pretty regular to me.  As for the two periods in a month, since you have short cycles it wouldn't be unusual to have a period at the begining of the month and at the end.
