We have our hospital tour tomorrow. How many of you have already gone on your tour. Was it what you expected? I'm a STM but I'm delivery in a different hospital, and different state. I'm curious to see everything.

STM here taking our tour tomarrow as well. We took the tour with #1 (different hospital) and let me tell you it totally paid off. My water broke at home, about 40 mintues from that hospital. It really helped us to stay calm knowing that we knew where and what to do.
Really had we not known we would have came in the completely wrong side of the hospital and been walking forever.
I'm really excited for our tour tomorrow as well. I love the idea of getting to see where it's all gonna go down!!

Our tour is Monday and I'm looking forward to it. I did get a sneak peek a couple weeks ago when my friend had her baby and I went to visit so I know where to park and where to go for admission. I know that ours also has a triage area, then labor and delivery suites (with jacuzzi tubs in each of the rooms) and recovery rooms that are much smaller and that security is very tight. Apparently they attach transponders to the umbilical cord or something? Crazy!

Ours was really helpful too. They told you were to park and the tour itself was so nice. Things I didn't know:
-They have rooms specifically for checking you before they accept you (see how far dilated you are, etc.)
-I will be delivering in 1 room and moved to a post partum room after being cleaned up and baby is checked out.
-The dad gets 1 free meal during your stay. But there is a refridgerator in the room. They also have free sandwiches and snacks availble 24/7.
-They have birthing balls there so we don't need to bring one. They also have a docking station for your phone/ipod.
Every hospital is different so I definiletly think it's beneficial to find out what your hospital offers and doesn't offer.
I am a STM and still found the tour very beneficial. I am delievering 5 1/2 years later and in another state though. My hospital sounds a lot like the one above except the husband (or labor supporter) has a pull out bed to sleep on in both the labor room and the post partum room. The food thing is the same as well as the iPod dock. We do have free wifi and our flat screen TVs hook to the internet too so they can give you a keyboard for that. I found it amazing how high tech the hospital is here, even the monitors are wireless so that you can still walk through labor. The have birthing balls, bars, and tubs in the rooms along with all kinds of other labor aids.
Our hospital doesn't do tours (weird, but okay), but the nurses on the maternity wing said I could come in anytime when I called. She answered all my questions on the phone, so I'm not too worried about it (I have visited it a few years ago to see a family member, so that helps too). So no tour for me.
I'm happy to hear this hospital doesn't let just anyone past the waiting room (my last hospital did). And that they encourage rooming in and procedures done in my room as well. She also explained how everything works when we come in and throughout the whole process (switching rooms, etc.). I am feeling very optimistic about our stay!
Have fun! And I hope it's what you expected and more!
Re: Hospital Tour
we found ours super helpfull. Good to know where the drop off is, triage verses delivery vs recovery, how many people will fit per room etc.
