This may seem like a dumb question... ?I have been giving my baby a bath using a mesh net thingee since he was born (so its kind of like he is in a hammock in the baby bath tub). ?But its colder now and he is growing, so not only is he outgrowing the mesh thing, the air is a lot cooler now and he gets cold not being submerged in the water.
?My question is - do you bathe your baby in a baby tub full of water? ?Then do you empty it out and then give the baby a final rinse to get the suds off? ?do you do it inside your bath tub or on the sink counter like I do? ?
Thanks in advance for any replies!!?
Re: How do you give your baby a bath?
Two things...
First of all, how is the treatment of little Gavin's feet going? We thought DD was going to have a club foot--but she has a posterial tibial bow instead. We had done so much research about BCF before she was born. Is everything going okay?
Second...we put DD on the foam bear spongy thing inside the tub. She LOVES her bath but HATES the sling. It keeps her partially submerged, but not entirely. As I wash her, I use a rinse cup and get clean water from the faucet. The suds seem to come off fine, and by the time we're done everything's so diluted it doesn't matter. We put the tub on the counter in the bathroom--it's easier to reach.
What we do is put the baby bath in the kitchen sink. It rests nicely on top so that we can drain it, but it's high up.
I actually use the squirty bottle from the hospital to rinse him off. I had a c-section and never needed to use the squirter, so that's what I use to rinse his hair and do one last rinse over his body. I like it because it's a lot more directed and doesn't get his face covered with suds or water.
I Lol'd when I read that. Maybe in the next round of India commercials, they can show people using distilled water for the bath!
Anyhoo, when I give DD a bath, I put her in her tub which is within our big tub. I lay her on that mesh hammock thing. I've also found that now that she's bigger a lot of her is out of the water so I just take the washcloth, dunk it in the water and wring it out on her tummy or legs or arms just so they constantly have warm water being poured on them.
DH and I usually do this together. We have 2 bath versions. The long version is DS sits in the blue baby bathtub which is in the real tub. DS wasn't comfortable in the mesh. At the end, I pick him up and we use a pitcher to rinse him off front and back. (I lay him over my legs while I sit on the edge of the tub.) More often, DH holds him and we put him under the tub faucet, I soap him up, and we rinse off. Every AM and PM we do hands, face and bottom that way. Other times we do the whole thing.
Thanks so much for all of the advice!! ?

BecauseICan - his treatment is going really well! ?(thank god)... ?He was in casts for nine weeks which had to be changed every week. ?His Dr. is almost 7 hours away, so we had to drive a long way every week which was tough, but we got through it. ?Now he is in a brace which he wears for 23 hours a day, 7 days a week. ?Its just something we have gotten used to - poor little guy. ?By the time he is one he will only need to wear them for about 14 hours a day (so at night and for naps). ?But guess what - he rolled over at 3 months with his brace on - I cried - I was so happy
?not familiar w/ what your DD has - I will research that.. ?We didn't know he had clubfoot until he was born. ?Needless to say I was heartbroken - but now he is "fixed" so I am used to it...
?preg_amy - we use that bottle too! ?That's how we give him the final rinse - DH will just lift him in the air while I squirt away. ??
