3rd Trimester

Sweating & Deodorant

At 33 weeks, it is now undeniable that I am sweating...like a beast! My hands, my feet, my belly, my butt, and my arm pits.

I'm finding that no matter how much deodorant I use, or how frequently I use it, I always end up sweating through my shirts...and frankly, I am no fan of wet spots under my arms.

Does anyone have a deodorant that they've found is strong enough for a pregnant lady? And also doesnt have an overbearring scent--because there are very few smells I can stand these days. My nose seems to be turned up to ultra high sensitivity.

Thanks!!

Re: Sweating & Deodorant

  • what kind do you use currently?  I use Secret Clinical and it does the job with the underarms.

    however I sweat a bunch now and once I start I can't stop.  mostly my face/neck/chest :P

  • They have the really strong prescription strength one (I think it's secret or dove that makes it). It's a little more than regular deodorant and I'm pretty sure it comes in light scents (like powder) or even unscented . I hope this helps!

  • I managed to get through the first and second tri with only the liquid crystal stuff... never before had I used it, but I wanted to avoid the chemicals. I am generally a very heavy underarm sweater and nothing really works. Several years ago my sweating kicked in in full force; it was the dead of winter and I was wearing a thin hoodie, and after about 20 minutes, I took it off and was able to actually wring sweat out of the pits of it. It was awful. I don't sweat QUITE as much anymore, but it's still bad.

I basically have to use Certain Dri to just get by every day. You put it on after bathing and just let it sink in/dry, and then you use deodorant. I have been using unscented Mitchum, going between "smart solid" and gel. I still sweat and smell after a bit, but if I use anything regular, including the "clinical strength" stuff (which is a joke), it works even less. The Certain Dri keeps me from having sweat running down my sides, though.

  • I use a combo of body powder + regular deodorant about twice a day. I've noticed I sweat a lot between my legs like where my thigh meets groin so I puff some powder there probably more often than that.

My feet stay sweaty... which is funky because I'm usually a SUPER cold natured person and have ice packs for feet even when it's warm.

I used to use a deodorant called Certain Dri to avoid pit stains. It works wonders. I think it was around $7 and I usually got it at CVS or Walgreens. It doesnt have a scent to it at all. It rolls on and I used to have to hang out in my bra for a minute to dry because it would stain my clothes if it was still wet.  I was a nervous sweater in high school, I think I grew out of it because I don't have the issue anymore.

This, Certain Dry was a prescription years ago. Just follow the directions. I used to sweat and now use Certain Dry maybe once per month or so and have not sweat in years.

  • I have use Mitchum for about a month and its been working really well.I found that during my bath or shower I have to really wash and scrub my underarms with a loofah and dial bar soap to remove the deodorant from the day before and and dead skin cells. If you arent removing the deodorant from the day before the bacteria will build up and make me smell and sweat more.

  • I have dealt with excessive sweating pretty much my entire life and it gets even worse during pregnancy. I have tried prescription antipersperants and clinical strength options with no luck. The ONLY one that has worked for me is Clinique -yes the cosmetic company. They make a roll on antipersperant that is amazing!!! No scent and it works!! I never have sweat spots anymore and have been using it for 4+ years now. It's a little spendy-$12 but it lasts and I promise it works! If it doesn't Clinique will give you a refund.

  • Certain Dri works much better than any of the other brands I've tried, and I love it because it's rated as "0" on Skin Deep's cosmetic database for potentially harmful chemicals, compared to the higher ratings for many other brands.
