The show " I didnt know I was pregnant" hmmm

If this turns too heated we can delete the thread, but I am watching I Didn't Know I was pregnant" right now and want your ladies take on this. And I am jsut wondering how many of these stories are BS. I watched one with a women not much bigger than me who had twins, then one of a 90LB women who didn't know she was preggo with a 7LB baby in her. Being that we all feel so many symptoms already, can you imagine not knowing till full term?

  • Honestly, I can't imagine not knowing I was pg. BUT I guess it must happen rarely otherwise why would shows like that even exist? The stories can't possibly ALL be made up, right?

  • I can't speak to the individual stories, and I'm not watching it now, but I think it is possible for some people. I had very few symptoms with DD and wouldn't have known if we hadn't been trying. What I wouldn't have been able to miss, though, were her kicks starting at about 22 weeks or so. However, from what I've heard from other people, she was a very active baby, and there are some babies that really just don't kick much, so you could confuse it with occasional gas pain.

Probably not every story is legit, but I bet some of them are. I also find the ones with the skinny women the hardest to believe :-)

  • Agreed, some MUST be true. But it still floors me everytime!

  • If I didn't take a pregnancy test or realize I skipped a period I wouldn't know I was pregnant now. I get not knowing until 20 weeks or so if you are person who doesn't show very much. But not knowing at 35+ weeks is hard to believe.

  • I could see how some women may not know they are pregnant till later in their first trimester or early 2nd trimester especially since some early PG symptoms can be mistaken for AF symptoms. But to carry a baby full term not knowing your pregnant, especially with things like when baby kicks or does full on somersaults did they think that was serious gas?

  • I agree. I can't understand how these women don't know. I've always wondered if the stories are all made up.

A not so active baby could make sense under ther gith circumstances. But these 90lb women, I just look at them like..uhh huhhh lol

  • I agree with kelly.

Also, I knew a woman who didn't find out she was pregnant until she was already 7 months.  That's pretty long!

Every pregnancy is different and while most of us are feeling (reveling in, even?) whatever syptoms we might have, the fact is most pregnancy symptoms can also be attributed to other things and if you aren't expecting to get pregnant it is probably possible.

  • Some people are just really not in touch with their own bodies. I also know someone who only gained one pound during pregnancy, but she was pretty sick.

  • *Dropping in from lurking*

I know someone who was on that show.  I used to work with her actually.  I didn't even know she was going to be on the show until I turned it on one night and she was on the screen.  I called my friend (who had also worked with her) and she confirmed that it was her.  I didn't have any contact with her when all of this was going on so I can't tell you whether I believe her story or not but what made it even crazier is that she had a son who was around 8 or 9 at the time so she had experienced being pregnant before.  So strange!

  • My next question:  if it's not true surely the show would research it before airing it, right?  And if it's not true there would have to be doctor's visits unless the woman found out and told no one in hopes of being on the show.

Sadly, I bet there are people in the world who would do that.

ETA:  Wait, that's all classified so I guess they wouldn't know. Nevermind.

  • That is crazy. Guess it's just one of those things that you cannot understand or know until you have been through it yourself.

  • I agree with what all pp said. E wasn't a very active baby but by 7.5 months there were times he would kick and it would double me over. I think what gets m is the ones where they are sick the entire time and never go see a doctor. I don't rush to the doctor with every runny nose but If I was nausous and vomiting for 9 months I think I would go.

  • There is a woman on my old BMB that didn't know until she was almost 7 months. Also my coworkers step mom didn't know until she was 6 months, so I guess it is possible.

  • I think the majority of them should be referred to as "I was in denial that I was pregnant for my entire pregnancy" And it irritates me to no end that these women have no prenatal care, some smoke, drink, don't alter their lifestyle in any way and they all have these perfectly healthy babies. It doesn't show the other side of it at all. All the babies that don't make it and aren't born perfectly healthy :-(

  • Well, there's NO WAY I'll ever get to be on that show. I weighed 100 pounds before all of my pregnancies, and gained 35-38 pounds with each one. I felt huge by the time I was 35 weeks, so I can't fathom not knowing.

I'm guessing some of the women featured on that show had medical problems that they thought were causing their symptoms. Plus, the position of the placenta can make it difficult to feel movement. So, if you have a woman who doesn't gain much weight during pregnancy, or a woman whose weight fluctuates, an inactive baby and an anterior (?) placenta, I guess you could potentially have someone who doesn't know they're pregnant.
