Anyone else dealing with this?

I'm so frustrated. DS wouldn't sleep in his crib for about the first 3 months of his life. Finally, we got him to a point where he would sleep in his crib at night, though he was waking or fussing a couple times a night and would need to eat. That was tiring enough, but basically fine. In the last few weeks he has been rolling back to tummy like a fiend but still has trouble rolling tummy to back. Now at night he will flip onto his tummy and sometimes will sleep like that for a few hours but inevitably, will start fussing at some point. I go in to turn him over onto his back, he flips himself right back onto his tummy, rinse and repeat over and over. I've been so tired that after a few times of this I've resorted back to letting him sleep in his swing for the remainder of the night. Last night he even had issues in the swing, though I think it was because he had gas, probably due to his first try of green beans. I am extremely hesitant to put anything in his crib like a rolled up blanket or similar items to keep him from rolling over onto his tummy. I feel like he's never going to get the hang of it. In the meantime, I'm exhausted. Is anyone else dealing with this or does anyone have any ideas of how I can make this problem better?

Re: Anyone else dealing with this?

  • Oy, I feel your pain. I'm not dealing with this exactly but I have not been sleeping this entire week either. And I unfortunately don't have any advise either :(

My DD is not rolling over, but she now likes to sleep on her side. Problem is, she doesn't know how to stay on her side so she of course flips onto her back and wakes up.

I have also put her in her swing but not even there is she happy. I'm averaging 2hrs a sleep per night. I almost fell asleep driving to work TWICE!

I actually want to roll up blankets and put them under the fittet sheet to keep her on her side, but like you, my DH is really hesitant. BUT since he whines all the time and won't stick to his nights where he is supposed to watch DD and constantly wakes me up, too I'm putting my foot down tonight...

I hope this doesn't last forever for either of us. It is very tiring and exhausting.

    Good luck!

  • I hear ya, bigbear. Good luck to you, too. I hadn't considered putting the rolled up blankets under the fitted sheet. I wonder if that would work. Part of me thinks he would roll right over them or just roll a different way in the crib. I may try it and see what happens though. DS started sleeping on his side, then went from side to tummy, so hopefully if your DD starts going from side to tummy she will at least be able to flip herself back over onto her back if she wants.

  • Yes, with the fun twist that since he is on a mattress on the floor rather than in a crib he just keeps rolling and then winds up on the carpet fussing.  It happened 3 times last night. Fml.

I bought some pool noodles to put under his fitted sheet to slow his roll.   Wish us luck!
