4 month old not grasping toys

So my LO just turned 4 months today, and she still isn't grasping or reaching for any toys.  She seems interested in toys, and when I shake a rattle in front of her, she watches and smiles, but won't reach for anything, and if I try to put something in her hand, she won't really grasp it.  If she does grasp it, it seems sort of accidental, and she'll drop it pretty quickly.  I have her 4 month appointment next week, so I'll ask the pediatrician, but I thought I would check in to see if anyone else was in my boat.  Would love some peace of mind, since I'm starting to get worried.  She seems developmentally normal in all other ways.  It's just her arms almost seem "heavy."  TIA!

    From what I've read babies can advance different things at different pace ie may be early at smiling or rolling over but slower along in grasping etc

    My LO was like that, then all of the sudden at almost 4.5 months she was reaching and trying to grasp everything. I wouldn't be too worried if she is just 4 months today, like PP said all babies develop at different rates.

    In the "What to Expect the First Year" book, it says that by four months, your baby will "probably" grasp a rattle.  By five months, it says your baby "should" grasp a rattle and reach for an object.  Of course, these statements are prefaced by, "Every baby is different, etc, etc."  I wouldn't be too worried!

    My LO will be 4 months on Saturday and is in the same boat. He doesn't seem to have any interest in grabbing toys, but will always watch them and smile when they are in front of him. I try to get him to grab onto toys by placing them in his hand but he never holds onto them for long. I'm not too worried...he'll get it eventually!

    Thank you!!  I really appreciate everyone's responses.  This makes me feel better!  I guess I have to remember that these are just guidelines.  It's so hard not to worry about this kind of stuff!
