Is anyone else making food to freeze for after baby is born? If so, what are you storing the food in? I was going to make some lasagna and ?? Any recipe suggestions would be great too!
I haven't had the energy to make anything, however I have thought about it We plan on grilling a lot in the beginning...thankfully it's June! One of my favorite blogs had a post a long time ago about stocking the freezer....here's the link:
We aren't - it's going to be hot, and I don't want to heat up the house. We also have a super small freezer, so we've chosen to stock that with food we can grill and ice cream.
I have a month worth of meals made and in our deep freeze.. lasagna, chicken pot pie, enchiladas, baked french toast; as well as desserts (cookie dough cut into cookie sized portions that just need to be baked, etc), and ready-made meals (think Bird's Eye "Voila" ) and frozen pizzas that I bought. We also stocked up on meat, we bought 1/4 of a beef and 1/2 a hog.. so basically, we're ready for the apocolypse. lol
I froze everything in aluminum pans from Walmart, they're like 98 cents for 6 or something, and the perfect size for 2 people, with a cardboard top. I've then put them in zip-lock freezer bags with the directions written on top.
We store the food in plastic containers, freezer bags, or foil pans, depending on what it is. I made breakfast burritos, enchiladas, salsa chicken, marinated chicken, hamburger patties, and crab cakes.
I also froze cooked ground beef, cooked chicken with veggies, cooked Italian meatballs, etc, so that on days I am running so behind, I can just pop those into a pan with some sauce (jarred pasta sauce, curry, Philadelphia mix-ins, etc) and dinner is done in like 10 minutes. The ground beef also makes chili and stuff really easy to make. I also use the chicken and veggies for fried rice ( we always have rice made anyway).
We also have some complete things ready- like sweet and sour meatballs in sauce- that just have to be reheated. Those have been great for lunch. Freezing muffins have been good for breakfast and snacks too.
