more bottle talk - Avent or Dr. Browns or something else?

  • Before I vote, what does SS mean?

Isn't it special snowflake, or "other"?  This is my first poll!

I said SS. We use Dr. Browns and Born Free now, and both work equally well (both BF and FF). I actually like the Born Free better for formula because there are fewer pieces, making it easier to mix the formula in the actual bottles. It doesn't work with the Dr. Browns. That said, my DS is gassy, so we need bottles that will help reduce the airflow. Both of these work great.
  • I bf and use medela bottles.  I have both the avent (never opened) and Dr. Brown bottles.  Both are the larger size 8/9ounce.  I only opened the dr. brown nipples when we were having some bottle feeding issues, but those bottles look like a pain to clean.

I don't really like the medela nipple and I don't like how the avent bottles are so fat.

So, no help here.  I just wanted to say I don't like things about all 3 of those bottles.  If you do want to get the larger medela bottles, they sell a two pack of them on amazon for $4.75.  They are not like the picture.  They do not have ounces printed on them in ink.  The ounces are raised in the plastic.

  • Ok, I voted other. I used evenflo with either the traditional silicone nipple or the nuk brand nipple. That's the only bottle I've used for any of my kids. I have had some experience with the avent and they leaked/ dribbled which was annoying.

I'm old fashioned I guess. I just don't get all these newer bottles.

ETA - I'd try to do the return, I bet they'd take it back.

  • I voted Avent, because that what we use and are happy with them. However, we've never tried the Dr. Brown's or Medela. They might be good too.

  • We have a medela PISA so obviously have the bottles, and although they look so plain, and not fancy, DD will eat out of those just fine, but she does not have gas or is not colicky, so if she was, I would def reconsider because you can see bubbles in the bottle, and the nipples are "cheapy" in my opinion.

We have AVENT bottles and I love them, I never see gas bubbles in DD's bottles, and she drinks well out of them, no drips.... however in the beginning, when I was not putting them together correctly, she leaked everywhere, but that was user error not the bottle, they are kinda pricey, in my opinion compared to other bottles we only have a three pack (she is EBF, but gets bottles of BM at day care) so they just get rotated in. I agree that the bottles are F-A-T, but that doesn't bother me.

I have no experience with Dr. Browns

I also have 1 SIMILAC bottle, got it as a sample, and it freggin SUCKS.. the nipple is weird and DD dribbles every.time. and I know its not user error

I would also like to add that if the pack is unopened I dont see why you could not return it for a store credit? It is worth a try

  • We use Dr. Browns.  I don't see the parts as being to terrible to clean.  I let them soak in super hot water for few minutes.  They I scrub the heck out of them and let them dry.

Granted I own like 8 bottles so I don't run out all the time.  We use Similar bottles which mix the formula really well but my kid doesn't like the nipple and he gets gassy when we do use them.

I've never had a Dr B bottle leak, that's surprising you had that issue. I just started to buy the 8 oz bottles because we'll likely be moving up soon.

I could have written this myself. Exactly this.

  • I hate Dr. Brown!  A friend of mine used them, and they leaked EVERYWHERE!  I used Avent until we started having gas issues, and I tried Born Free...they stopped our issues and Ian likes them just as good as Avent.  I tried going back to Avent, because we were moving up in sizes and he's done fine on them again.  I had a coupon for the Similac bottles, so I bought one.  HE LOVED IT!  They're a little finicky and leak if you don't have the nipples just right.  So, I bought a bunch of those because I took all the Avent to my mom's for them to use there (my sisters and mom keep Ian at her house while I'm at work).  So, last week, Ian decided he HATES the Similac bottles!  And I only have 3 of the bigger Born Free Bottles and all these Similac ones that he's now refusing to suck.  Also, he likes the Nuk bottles, but he will only suck it upside down (hates the Nuk paci).  So, I'm in a bit of a pinch with bottles too...tempted to just go take some back from my mom's.  But, I am a fan of Avent and Born Free.
