MoMs and those further along - when does the nausea let up?

Hi all,

I know it's all random and your stories don't necessarily mean anything, but I'm really, really struggling right now. I've been nauseated 24 hours a day for 9 weeks now - just a horrible seasick, dizzy feeling. It's getting more and more difficult at work and I can't seem to accomplish anything at home either. Everyone kept promising me it would let up a bit at 12 weeks but if anything, it's worse this week than it has been.

Any hopeful stories for me? I know it's a sign of a healthy pregnancy and I'm beyond grateful for any signs that this is going well for me, but I'm just a bit overwhelmed right now.

Thanks :-)

  • Unfortunately, I was very nauseous until almost 18 weeks. I got so tired of people asking me if I was STILL nauseous, because that's only "supposed" to be in the first trmester. Not always people! It's very tough and makes it hard to get through the day, but once it was gone I have felt like a whole new person. Hopefully it lets up for you...

  • Mine let up around 14 weeks but I still have to take 4 mg of Zofran a day and choose my breakfast carefully.  GL!

I think it was around 16 weeks and then I had a break for a few weeks and it came back for about 2 weeks. So around 20 weeks it was better.

Good luck and you are not the only one who feels that way.

  • It was like 24 weeks for me. Zofran and I were well acquainted. I hope you feel better soon :)

  • I had nausea the whole time I was preggers with the twins - all the way up to delivery day. They put me on nausea meds so I could keep food down. They told me it was because of all the extra hormones and being pregnant with girls. But I have a friend who had twin girls and was only nauseated the first trimester. Everyone is different. With my current pregnancy (a singleton) the nausea was done by week 16. Eating actually helped make it go away. And I only threw up once! Versus every day with the girls. I didn't even have to take meds. So every pregnancy is different. For regular m/s sufferers the 1st tri is usually the worst. I hope your nausea ends speedily!!!

  • Mine lasted until 16w3days. I remember I woke up that morning and didn't need to take my Zofran (was put on Zofran at 13 weeks because I had become so dehydrated from the m/s). I kept waiting for it to come back but it never did. Hoping you get some relief soon.

  • Mine ended up around 15w, and I was able to stop taking Zofran. However, it came back again around 27w, and I was nauseous and had to take a Zofran daily again until I delivered.
  • Thanks everyone. As I thought, there really is nothing consistent about it. I was really hoping to have some sort of magic day I could look forward to - it just all feels a bit endless right now. I'm lucky in that I'm not throwing up all the time, I just feel like I always could, so I'm obviously not able to take anything for it. I pretty much just want to live curled up in a ball on my couch, whining and having my husband bring me tea. I really hate feeling this overwhelmed already!

Thanks a lot for your input. I will keep my fingers crossed that it passes soon :-)

  • Sorry to tell you but mine still comes and goes. I was able to come off my zolfran at 16 weeks though. Hang in there it will hopefully pass soon for you.

  • I was hospitalized for it around 12 weeks, got a PICC line and zofran pump. I was off both of those by about 15 weeks. Since then it has been manageable with Zofran pills as needed. With my DD I was sick every day until delivery, I really believe the aggressive treatment this time made a big difference.

Hopefully you can find effective treatment and feel better soon, it's rough!

  • I was nauseous until about 16 weeks or so. It was kind of a gradual let up. I stopped waking up nauseous, then fewer foods and smells would make me sick, then I felt normal around 18 weeks.

However, I hate to tell you this, heartburn kicked in around 14 weeks, and turned full on reflux by 24 weeks. Cue more vomiting. It's able to be decently controlled with meds, but unpleasant.

It's not everyone's experience, to be sure, but basically having a screwed up digestive system for the whole pregnancy is part of the multiples experience.

On the bright side, your energy level will pick up! You will feel better in some respects!

This! I hated when people would say "You're still sick? Isn't that supposed to stop after 12 weeks?" There is sadly no magic button, and yes I'd rather be feeling better!! My nausea ended around 14.5 weeks, and it's been largely gone since then. Morning sickness has been back with a vengeance, for some reason, the past few days for me, but it was largely gone by the time week 15 rolled around. I feel for you!!! You're getting close to relief.

  • hate to tell you, but I was sick / nauseated the whole time right up to delivery. I threw every day at least once, if not 5-6x.  Zofran took the edge off, but I just lived through it somehow.

  • I was VERY sick ALL day EVERY day until 16 weeks but the sickness lasted until 22 weeks. After that I would have little short feelings of nausea that would set in but nothing too bad. I hope you feel better soon. To be honest my whole pregnancy was miserable. Other than the fact that I was growing my two wonderful children (so it was all worth it) it was the worst time of my life. I had severe carpal tunnel, restless leg syndrome, nausea, and charlie horses. I wish you the very best of luck, hang in there, it will all be over before you know it and it is very much worth it.

  • I was hospitalized at 10 weeks because I was so sick that I was losing weight and completely dehydrated. I was on IV fluids, gravol and then I was put on Diclection (Canadian Zofran). I just completely got off diclection at 17 weeks but the nausea still comes and goes (19 weeks now) but it's tolerable.

  • I was never as sick as you, but I did spend several hours a day dizzy, nauseous, and unable to keep much down. However, I really did start feeling better at thirteen weeks. I'm still icky some mornings if I don't eat soon enough, and I randomly threw up again yesterday, but for the most part, it's gone.

    Here's hoping for you!

  • Ugh. I was sick everyday until about 4 months...then every 3 days or so until about 6.5 months...I was like that with all my pregnancies though... Just think it'll all go away once those little cuties pop out!!! Totally worth it.
