I've had mild hip pain (on my right side) on and off since I was about 6-8 weeks. Depending on the position I'd sleep in would affect how uncomfortable it would be the next day. In the last week or so I'm not sure what hapend, but the pain has increased and gotten really bad. Now it feels like I have a pulled muscle from my right hip to the right upper butt cheek (almost lower back, but still butt cheek area). It hurts to go up stairs. It hurts to left my opposite leg to put on pants. It hurts when I get up from a low sofa or car. It hurts to roll over in the middle of the night. There have been a few days where I needed to go shopping, and after running to a couple of stores, I literally wanted to cry. I guess after being on my feet for so long, the pain was raidiating across my lower back.
I mentioned it to my midwife and she said just to walk, streatch, heat, massage. Don't stand or sit too long. So that is what I've been doing. I feel like it makes it feel better for a little bit, but nothing long term.
It's not unbearable, but all I can think of is:
I'm honeslty worried about those negative thoughts! Although I'm trying to stay positive!
My Bradley instructor suggested massaging with arnica oil, but I want to check with my midwife first. But I don't see her until 6/22/12, so it will be awhile before I can ask her.
DH and I are going to get messages on Thursday (a prenatal message for me of course). So I'm hoping that will help with things, espchally for a few days.

At 20-week anatomy scan found IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), and very low Amniotic Fluid. Now, I'm High Risk and have weekly ultrasounds to monitor fluid and growth. If baby runs out of room or is too growth restricted, they will deliver ASAP. My current goal is to make it to 28 weeks!
Re: Pain Now Compaired to Pain in Labor!?!?!
Thanks Amber! Out of curiosity, what tape are you listening to? I've been meaning to get one, but am such a procratinator!

I've had two easy pregnancies and two med-free births (one of which was back labor). I'm almost 35 weeks and have had sciatic nerve pain with this pregnancy for the last couple of months and it's kicking my ass. Not only does my entire leg go numb if I'm on my feet for more than 5-10 minutes, but it hurts like hell and is only getting worse the further along I get. I told my husband that I look forward to labor so that I can have this baby and finally be done with this sciatic pain once and for all.
Just think of it, you're living with the pain for weeks and weeks and labor is (hopefully) a few hours - or a day or two, at worst. GL!
My 1st pregnancy I had absolutely awful hip, lower back, sciatic, & PSD pain. It was unbearable at times. This pregnancy hasn't been so bad - I'm not working a desk job, so I think the fact I'm not sitting all the time helps. If I either sit or stand too much this pregnancy, I'm in pain, so I break it up throughout the day. I'm keeping up with Kettlebell & Yoga too.
I second seeing a chiropractor. I was in almost weekly for pregnancy #1. This time I've been in about once a month. My hips spread A LOT when I'm pregnant, & it hurts. He fixes it right up.
Ditto the PP's recommendation to try a chiro. I had terrible SI joint pain, and I didn't see a chiro until 2 weeks after DD was born, when I couldn't walk without a limp. I felt silly for not going when I was pregnant when I realized I didn't have to be in that pain.
Anyway, I don't know what your experience will be, but I can tell you that an 8-hour kidney stone attack and recovery from an open-surgery appendectomy were worse for me.
Have you considered acupuncture?
As far as the 'negative thoughts' you mentioned that's normal, I think everyone has those thoughts at some point. Three days before I had DD I had horrible sciatic nerve pain and I thought to myself if it's anything like this, I'm getting the epi! I was in labor for 17.5 hours with DD and I never even entertained the idea of an epi, honestly! As most women on here will tell you, contractions are just different than anything else you could experience. For me it was a wave, coming, building, and then washing away. In between I felt pretty good, so I just had to take it one at a time and I was fine.
Hope you feel better soon mama!
I have mega pelvic ligament issues could barely walk during my last PG and was intense pain for 9 months after delivery (very extreme case of pelvic girdle pain). This PG my pelvis has also separated, but I go to the chiro regularly and I can function amazingly well. I actually get mad when I realize I could've not suffered so much last time.
As for comparing the pain--one is "unnatural" pain one is very natural. Your body's systems will work to help you process labor pain. However, being in chronic pain is a whole different thing in terms of how your body reacts. I was confident about my pain in labor--it had a purpose. In contrast, I was fearful and panicy about the pelvic pain.
For me, my ligament issues can encourage a malpositioned baby and that can increase labor pain/cause back labor. A chiro is also good for helping baby get OA.

I'm using a tape that was given out during our hypnobirthing class, you could probably youtube one, don't know for sure though
