If you tore the 1st time, did is happen again?

Hi ladies...i know this is not a very fun topic. But with DS i had an episiotomy with a 3rd degree tear.  My biggest fear of delivery with this one is going in and not being able to get the epi (im already 4cm and 70%) and tearing just like i did last time.

I am wondering if you ended up tearing again, if so was it in the same spot?  And how has your recovery been?

 Thank you!!!

  • I did not tear this time around and recovery was 20 times easier.  I felt great when I left the hospital apart from the general soreness of my stomach which is to be expected!  I am currently 4 weeks PP and feel like my old self except for the tiredness! I hope you have an breezy recovery!

  • I tore in the same place and it was a bit bigger of a tear but the recovery has been much easier. I'm 4weeks pp and have felt like myself for just about 2 weeks now. I'm able to walk/run a few miles with no soreness afterwards.

  • Nope! I don't remember how badly I tore the first time around but I didn't tear at all this time. Probably because I pushed for less than ten minutes as opposed to an hour with my first. Recovery was MUCH easier this time around. I was a little sore at first but that went away pretty quickly.

  • I had a 2nd degree tear the first time. This time I had an awesome midwife that had me push carefully. She massaged me with olive oil as DD came out. She came out very fast and was out in just a couple pushes and I still didn't tear!

  • I had a 2nd degree episiotomy with my 1st and the same with the 2nd.  the recovery has been easier though.  still a little sore but almost 90% at less than 2 weeks PP.
  • I had a episiotomy and 2 internal years with ds1 and it was a pretty hard recovery. With ds2 I had 3 small tears on the outside and no episiotomy and it had been a very easy recovery.

  • I had a 3rd degree episiotomy the first time, and began tearing along the scar. I ended up with a SLIGHTLY smaller episiotomy this time. "Well, it's more than a 2, but not quite a 3." recovery has been a LOT easier! I have 3 skids, however, and they're still pretty painful 2weeks pp. I had one with DD...took about 2-3w to fully heal.

All of this for me, too, except my first tear was just a small one. This recovery without tearing has been amazing! I felt fine just days later. GL!

  • With my first DS I had an 2nd degree tear. This time around I had no epidural and only ended up with a small 1 degree tear. He was also over a lb bigger than the first and had a bigger head. I didn't even feel the tear when it happened. Recovery was about the same by 6 days pp I was back to normal.

I had planned to go without the epi this time, which was lucky because I defiantly did not make it to the hospital in time for it. But I will tell you that the second delivery was so much easier.

  • You ladies are amazing....thanks so much for the replies.  I know that every woman is different, so is every labor, but your responses took a load off my shoulders.

Congrats to all the new mommas!!! :)

  • I had one 2nd degree tear externally and one 3rd degree tear internally with DS and pushed for 29 minutes. This time I had a small teeny tiny tear with DD and pushed for less then 5 minutes (two pushes)... Recovery was amazing. With DS I had to take vicodin and couldn't sit or anything for a few weeks. With DD I was doing errands and taking DS to the park the day we left the hospital, only needed motrin due to my epidural spot being swollen and bruised (which was the worst part about recovery).

  • With DD#1, I had a 2nd degree tear, no episiotomy, and the healing process took 8 weeks (from 30 minutes of pushing - she was 7lbs 6 ounces). With DD#2, I had 3 stitches and felt good about 7 days after she was born (from 5 minutes of pushing- she was 8 lbs 6 ounces). I had pitocin with DD#1, membranes stripped with DD#2, and no epidurals with either.

  • I had an epi with DS and a 2nd degree tear.  With DS2 I had a completely med-free, intervention-free birth and I didnt tear at all.

  • I had a third degree tear with my first and she was 8 1/2 lbs. this guy was 10.5 lbs and I only had a 2nd degree tear. Neither tear caused me any real discomfort or long recovery because with both deliveries I've been more focused on excruciating tailbone pain :(

  • I had a small tear with DD1 but a very tough recovery (sat on ice packs for over a month). No tears with DD2 and a much, much easier recovery. I felt totally back to normal in 2-3 weeks.
